The Danish cyclist Jonas Vingegaard, double winner of the Tour de France, suffered a fall on Monday while training near Málaga. The fall began to be discussed on social media on Monday afternoon, following the testimony of a user who claimed to have ridden behind Vingegaard shortly before the accident. According to that account, the Dane had increased his pace on the descent with the intention of leaving him behind, at which point he lost control and fell. The enthusiast himself stated that he stopped afterward to check on his condition, but the Dane reacted angrily and told him to continue on his way.

Other cyclists in the area later corroborated what happened, noting that Vingegaard was stopped next to the guardrail with a bloodied face and clear signs of a serious fall. Some of them also stopped to offer help, although the leader of the Dutch team refused assistance and asked them to continue on their way.

Hours later, Visma Lease a Bike officially confirmed the incident through a brief statement on social media, reassuring about the condition of their rider. The team assured that Vingegaard is doing well and did not suffer serious injuries. In that same message, the team took the opportunity to issue a general reminder to fans and cycling enthusiasts, appealing for safety and respect during professional training, and requesting that they be allowed to ride with space and peace.

Vingegaard is currently training in southern Spain, a common winter training area for many professional cyclists due to its climate and topography. So far, there have been no reports of changes to his sports calendar or medium-term consequences resulting from this fall.
