Vingegaard flies in La Molina and Evenepoel is left without a response
The Volta a Catalunya finally found a great mountain day and also its owner. In a demanding stage from the start and with a tough finish in La Molina, Jonas Vingegaard imposed an undeniable superiority to take the stage and don the leader's jersey after a long-range attack that blew the race apart.
Vingegaard asserts his authority in La Molina and leaves Evenepoel shaken
The route between La Seu d’Urgell and Coll de Pal contained all the ingredients of a decisive stage. After several days affected by the wind, the peloton faced a series of climbs that forced them to race from afar. The breakaway formed early with top names, and among them, Giulio Ciccone played his cards well to get ahead of the favorites and solo over the first key moves of the day.
Behind, the race began to select itself naturally. The pace on Coll de Fumanya and the accumulated toughness left many riders without options, including the then-leader Dorian Godon, who succumbed to terrain that was too demanding to defend the jersey.
The decisive moment came on the final climb. With the breakaway already at its limit, movements among the favorites began to unfold until the Dane decided to break the race without waiting for the last kilometer. His acceleration found no real response. Not even Remco Evenepoel, who initially tried to follow him, could maintain the pace.

More than five kilometers from the finish, Vingegaard was already riding solo. Behind, the chase was organized without conviction and with continuous attacks that ultimately favored the leader of Visma even more. The gap grew steadily to exceed a minute at the finish line, certifying a decisive blow to the general classification.
The chasing group arrived fragmented, with Felix Gall and Lenny Martínez as the most consistent in the final climb, while Evenepoel lost more time than expected on terrain that should have favored him.
The day also left a delicate moment in the descent of Collada Sobirana, where a crash affected several important riders, including Tom Pidcock, João Almeida, and Brandon McNulty.
Beyond the stage victory, the impact on the general classification is total. Vingegaard not only gains time but also conveys a sense of absolute control in the high mountains. The Volta changes hands in a single ascent and now awaits confirmation of whether anyone can challenge his dominance in the remainder of the race.
