Vingegaard clarifies the rumors linking him to INEOS
The name of Jonas Vingegaard is once again at the center of the cycling market after the new Netcompany Ineos project has sparked rumors about possible major signings to regain dominance in the Grand Tours. But the Dane took advantage of the rest day of the 2026 Giro d'Italia to talk about the topic.
Vingegaard responds to Netcompany Ineos' interest
The leader of Visma Lease a Bike, who donned the pink jersey a few days ago and seems unlikely to have it taken away from him, has made some particularly relevant statements after Netcompany's entry into Ineos has triggered multiple rumors about a possible attempt to sign the two-time Tour de France winner.
Geraint Thomas himself, already integrated into the management structure of the British team, had recently downplayed the speculation by reminding that Vingegaard has a valid contract with Visma, although he also admitted that the goal of the new project is to reunite riders capable of winning Grand Tours.

However, Vingegaard left little room for interpretation in his remarks: “This is my eighth year as a professional,” the Dane explained. “I don't see myself competing until I'm 35. I'm turning 30, so there really aren't that many years left. And besides, I would say I don't see myself changing teams. In fact, I see myself finishing my career with this team.”
This is the most direct statement he has made so far about his future. Although he had previously insisted that he approaches his career season by season, this time he explicitly linked the end of his sporting career with Visma Lease a Bike.
That doesn't mean he is thinking about retiring in the short term. During the same appearance, he was also asked if winning the Giro d'Italia and thus completing the collection of the three Grand Tours could become the perfect moment to close his career. The Dane completely dismissed that idea.
“I have said for the last few years that I take it season by season,” he pointed out. “That's what I've done at least since my fall in 2024, and right now I don't see myself retiring. As long as I keep enjoying this, I will keep competing.”
The Italian race remains the absolute priority for Vingegaard. A victory in Rome would allow him to conquer the only Grand Tour still missing from his palmarès, although the Dane also hinted that he still has other important goals beyond the three-week races.
“Obviously, it would be a great goal for me to win the Giro here,” he explained. “But I still haven't won all the one-week stage races, and it would also be nice to achieve that. I've won some, which is great, but there are still important races that I would like to try to win.”
