The MTB World Cup loses one of its great names at the start of this season. Víctor Koretzky has confirmed on his social media that he has an injury that will force him to stop just when there was less than a month left until the start of the World Cup.
Koretzky suffers a humerus fracture and undergoes surgery

The French rider from Specialized Factory Racing announced that last Saturday he suffered a fracture in his left humerus, an injury for which he has already been operated on. This is how Koretzky himself described it:
“This is not what I had planned to announce, but I fractured my left humerus on Saturday. I have already been operated on and I have a new titanium implant. Thanks to everyone who helped me. Now I am in good hands and eager to start rehabilitation. I will miss the first two World Cups and we will see how recovery progresses to plan my return.”
The intervention has resulted in the implantation of a titanium prosthesis, something common in this type of fracture, and the focus now shifts directly to a recovery process that will determine his actual return timeline.
The injury comes at a delicate moment as there are less than 30 days until the World Cup starts. Koretzky had started 2026 making it clear that he was still one of the strongest riders on the circuit. His victory in Banyoles, the fifth in this event, was a demonstration of superiority against a group of top-level rivals like Dario Lillo, Luca Schwarzbauer, Sebastian Fini, or Jordan Sarrou.
This performance continued a 2025 season in which he was one of the main protagonists of the World Cup in both XCO and XCC, accumulating two victories and a long list of podiums. In addition, he arrived as the reigning world champion of Short Track, a title he defended last year.

With this scenario, Koretzky will not be at the first two key events of the World Cup, neither in Korea from May 1 to 3, nor in Nove Mesto Na Morave, from May 22 to 24.
If everything progresses as expected, the Frenchman's goal would be to return in Leogang, from June 11 to 14. However, recovery times for a humerus fracture, even after surgery, can vary depending on bone consolidation and readjustment to load on the bike.
