Video with the hard crash that knocked out Van der Poel in Benidorm: "I knew my race was over"

Only those who were in that area of the circuit saw firsthand what happened to Van der Poel, but many of us imagined that his fall must have been harder than he said at the end of the race. Now we can see that it was a dry and high-speed collision that left him stunned for a few seconds before he could get back on the bike.

The hard blow that knocked out Van der Poel in Benidorm

After a devastating comeback, Mathieu van der Poel took a few quieter laps to face an intense end of the race against Wout van Aert. But a few laps from the end he suffered a fall that left him far behind and without the energy to attempt another epic comeback.

But now we can see that his fall was a hard blow against what appears to be a light pole and that left him very stunned for several seconds.

He finally finished fifth and after the race he explained what happened to him in the race: "At the beginning my chain came off and I had to come back... But on the penultimate lap, after the sand area, I hit my shoulder and I knew everything was over".
