Van Aert adjusts his schedule to be in Benidorm
Changes in the cyclocross calendar of Wout van Aert who has already made it clear that his aspirations on the mud this season are minimal and that he is fully committed to having a great spring. He takes a break at the beginning of this year to close the CX season in Spanish lands competing in the World Cup in Benidorm.
Wout van Aaert skips the Zonhoven World Cup and replaces it with Benidorm
It is becoming increasingly clear that Wout van Aert has given up on shining in this cyclocross season. First with the resigned statements after the last races in which he acknowledged the superiority of Mathieu van der Poel and, now, having no qualms about modifying his race calendar at the last minute and it is not a minor change.
This week Wout van Aert was scheduled to participate in the beautiful race with the dunes of Kojsijde as protagonists of a new race of the X20 circuit, which will take place on Thursday and adds to the one he competed in Baal last Monday. This intense week was initially closed with his participation in another mythical circuit such as Zonhoven with its spectacular sandpits and which this year is part of the World Cup.

Well, now Wout van Aert has decided not to participate in this last race and, instead, will include, on January 21 the Benidorm World Cup race, taking advantage of the fact that he will be in the area for the concentration that Visma-Lease a Bike has planned for those dates.
Anyway, given what we have seen, everything points to the fact that for the Belgian it will be a new intensity training with a bib. Trainings in which, on the other hand, he is collecting places of honor in all races. Who could say that. And it is that he has also made it clear in recent interviews that he has his sights set on finally having a great spring on the cobblestones and getting rid of those thorns that he has stuck from not having yet achieved victory in Flanders or Roubaix.
There will be the cyclocross season of Wout van Aert composed of 9 participations, subtracting the two marked to dispute. In the remaining 7, the Belgian has harvested two victories in Essen and Zolder, of course without the presence of Van der Poel; and 4 second places. His worst result was the 5th place achieved last weekend in the World Cup in Hulst where several technical errors in the early stages of the test forced him to a very meritorious comeback.
