"The first half hour was really terrible": Van Aert relives his accident in this documentary
In a forgettable spring season, Visma-Lease-a-Bike saw two of their leaders, Wout van Aert and Jonas Vingeegar, injured in separate accidents during races in just a few days. In this documentary, the team focuses on the case of Van Aert, reliving and offering never-before-seen images of his accident and the recovery process he is going through.
Documentary of Visma-Lease-a-Bike about Wout van Aert's accident in the Dwars door Vlaanderen 2024
A fall in the 2024 Dwars door Vlaanderen while leading the race has disrupted Wout van Aert's entire season. In the accident, the Belgian fractured his collarbone and cracked several ribs, which has prevented him from starting in the Giro, his main goal of the year, and currently only allows him time to focus on his recovery. This is how he and his team experienced it.
Van Aert's statements only provide context to what we saw in the images: "I experienced tremendous pain until I received some strong medication at the hospital, the first half hour was really terrible."

As we mentioned, Van Aert has not yet made any public competition plans for the rest of the season, and although it would be possible to see him in the Tour de France, what does seem clear is that the Paris Olympics, both the road race and the time trial, could be his main goals of the year.
