Van Aert abandons La Vuelta due to a hard crash
One more day the Visma Lease a Bike cyclist Wout van Aert was in the breakaway in stage 16 of La Vuelta. But a hard crash during the descent of Colllada Llemena forced him to retire even when he tried to get back on the bike with a large wound on his knee.

Van Aert was one of the protagonists of La Vuelta with his tireless effort to launch and join the breakaways almost daily. In stage 16 between Luanco and Lagos de Covadonga, he was once again at the front of the race, but a spectacular fall in the descent of Colllada Llemena left him with a large wound on his right leg.

After the crash, he received a new bike from the support car and tried to get back on and pedal again, but soon realized it was impossible to continue.
