Valero enters the Top 10 of the Olympics: "It is a good result, although I was aiming for more"

Spanish David Valero won the bronze medal at the last Tokyo Olympics and made us all dream of hanging another medal in Paris, but as he himself has said, the medals "were expensive."

In the men's XCO event in Paris, there was everything almost from the start and a high pace stretched the group from the first lap. This hindered a possible early comeback by the Spaniards who started in 12th and 23rd positions for Jofre Cullel and David Valero respectively.

But Valero was not satisfied with such a delayed position and despite a fall and mechanical setbacks, he launched one of his usual comebacks to finish among the top 10 best Olympic cyclists.

"With those problems, I lost some time and concentration, but they are normal situations that can happen in a race, where everyone has their mishap," explained the cyclist from Baza.

He finally finished 10th, 2'27" behind Thomas Pidcock, while Jofre Cullel finished 24th.

"I am happy with the performance, I tried to fight for the medals, that's what I came for, but they were expensive. I am leaving feeling good, with good sensations, it is a good result, although I was aiming for more," said David Valero at the end.

The season is not over yet and there are still important meters left for a cyclist who is used to setting ambitious goals.

"The pace was very high, the peloton broke up and we fell behind, about 30 seconds. I am happy with the race, and there is still the season, I have not achieved a bad result, so I will continue with my performance and see if I can make an impact at the World Championships,"
