Urgent notice from Canyon for their eMTB Spectral:ON CF and CFR, and Torque:ON CF: there could be an "extremely unlikely" risk of fire
The bicycle manufacturer Canyon has just issued an urgent notice for owners of any of their eMTB Spectral:ON CF and CFR, and Torque:ON CF to stop using them due to a possible battery risk. A defect in the casing could pose a "extremely unlikely" risk of fire.
Canyon detects a problem and instructs to stop using and inspect the models Spectral:ON CF and CFR, and Torque:ON CF
Canyon has detected that "a small number of batteries (from the Spectral:ON CF and CFR, and Torque:ON CF models) may damage the casing with small cracks, gaps, or similar." This could lead to the battery being exposed to water or moisture and in a remote case could cause a short circuit.
"Under rare circumstances, this could allow moisture inside the battery, potentially triggering a short circuit that bypasses fail-safe mechanisms. Although extremely unlikely, we cannot rule out that a damaged battery could catch fire, resulting in a risk of personal injury or property damage." Explains part of Canyon's statement.
The affected battery models are:
- BT0001
- BT0002
- BT0003
- BT0004
