These aero-spoked wheels are presented as the fastest allowed by the UCI
Aerodynamic wheels with a high profile and lightweight seemed like an oxymoron since tubular tires fell into oblivion, displaced by the advantages of tubeless tires. However, the expertise of brands and the normalization of the use of carbon fiber spokes are managing to lighten even the most aerodynamic wheels to the maximum.

Weight or aerodynamics? You can have it all with the new Scribe Élan Ultra
The Irish brand Scribe surprises us with the launch of spectacular aerodynamic wheels that will not leave anyone indifferent. Scribe has aimed to build purely aerodynamic wheels, not versatile models for all uses. No, the Élan Ultra 6 features a 65 mm profile rim, the maximum allowed by the UCI after the change in regulations for use in road competition.

And they are not just scraping weight off the rim, as other brands have done, with a conservative width. The Scribe Élan Ultra 6 has a 24 mm internal width, in line with any current wheel, allowing it to accommodate tires between 28 and 50 mm, achieving better continuity between tire and rim to enhance its aerodynamic qualities in a profile that does not take risks and follows the guidelines defined by NACA for rims made of T1100 carbon.
The hubs, designed by the brand itself, are made to house straight spokes and, as it could not be otherwise for high-end wheels, feature ceramic bearings and a ratchet-type core. Both elements, rim and hub, are joined by 20 carbon spokes per wheel. Flat-designed spokes to enhance the aerodynamic capabilities of the wheels. These spokes are manufactured by the Italian company Alpina and feature a wavy section, presumably to generate a controlled turbulent flow that improves aerodynamics in the same way that some profiles have a finish like that of golf balls. The combination of the 65 mm profile rims and these peculiar spokes means that, according to comparisons made by Scribe in the wind tunnel, they are not only lightweight wheels but also the most aerodynamic, a claim that, obviously, should always be read between the lines as brands interpret the numbers in a way that is favorable to them.

The result is that these Scribe Élan Ultra 6, despite their 65 mm rims and a robust design that, as a note, sets the maximum weight limit at 125 kg, have a weight for the pair of just 1,289 g. Additionally, Scribe also has another model that would be the smaller sisters of these, the Élan Ultra 5, with a 50 mm rim, which reduces the weight to a fantastic 1,149 g.
These wheels will be available for sale starting January 1st at a price of €2,335.95 in both cases.
