The UCI approves the Visma's breathing sensor and could make a difference in the Tour
Despite the fact that the UCI was studying the prohibition of the breathing sensors being used by Visma-Lease a Bike, finally, the highest cycling body has determined that their use will be allowed in competition. Another weapon in the arsenal of the Dutch team to measure the effort of their cyclists to the millimeter in order to achieve victory in the Tour de France with Jonas Vingegaard.
Green light for the use of the Tymewear breathing sensor in competition
After several months of uncertainty about the use of the Tymewear breathing sensor in competition, the UCI finally gives the green light to this device designed to measure respiratory rate as well as the depth of each inhalation, which, interpreted by the algorithms developed by the brand, allows to accurately measure the intensity applied by the cyclist almost as if it were a stress test.
The UCI's communication is clear about this breathing sensor "Considering that the sensor seems to be commercially available and that the data it captures does not seem to compromise fairness or the integrity of the sport, the UCI has decided to allow its use in competition".

A piece of news that has been welcomed by Visma-Lease a Bike due to the quantity and quality of data it can provide when it comes to improving the training of their cyclists. "Measuring ventilation in the field, as accurately as possible, will provide us with a deep understanding of how the body reacts to effort in competition. These efforts cannot be replicated in training or in the laboratory. It will help us a lot to optimize training and improve our race strategies" declared Mathieu Heijboer, performance manager of Visma-Lease a Bike.
For a few months now, the breathing sensor Tymewear has been available for pre-sale on the brand's website for a price of around 277 euros. A device that, according to the founder of Tymewear, will be as disruptive in the training world as heart rate monitors were in the 80s, undoubtedly, very strong statements given the wide range of training tools that cyclists currently have.
For now, the goal of Visma-Lease a Bike will be to collect data, starting right now in none other than the Tour de France, the most demanding race in the world where they will surely obtain valuable information that will allow them to take their cyclists one step further.
