The Tour wants an epic final stage with cobblestones and climbs in 2025
Interesting information was published by the French newspaper Le Parisien that could transform the usually dull final stage on the Champs-Élysées in Paris into a very attractive day. ASO, the organizing company of the Tour de France, is considering the possibility of incorporating part of the route we saw this summer in the 2024 Paris Olympics into the 21st stage.
The Paris Olympics route could be in the Tour de France
The route where Remco Evenepoel conquered Olympic glory a few months ago may become a classic if ASO's idea of including three ascents to Montmartre in the 21st stage of the Tour de France 2025 is successful. After changing its traditional finish in Paris in 2024 to Nice due to the Olympics, the Tour de France will return to its usual finish on the Champs-Élysées.

This idea would celebrate the 50th anniversary of the arrival at the Champs-Élysées, as until then, the finish of the Tour de France was at the now-disappeared Parc des Princes velodrome in the French capital. The intention seems firm, and according to Le Parisien, ASO and the Paris police prefecture already have the file with the modifications that need to be studied before approval due to the logistical complications for the city.
This change would undoubtedly increase interest in the final stage, traditionally just a tribute to the race winner where only the stage victory is at stake, always a prestigious win for the world's best sprinters. However, this change could make the day competitive or at least open up the field of cyclists who could compete for the stage victory.
In any case, the three climbs to Montmartre would not replace the usual finish on the Champs-Élysées, whose circuit would still pass through the popular Parisian neighborhood. It has not been revealed whether ASO's idea is only for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the race's arrival at the famous avenue or if it comes with the intention of permanence.
