The highly anticipated first duel between the two stars of the cyclocross world will take place on Monday, December 23 in Mol, at the fifth stop of the Superprestige. Mathieu van Der Poel and Wout van Aert will face off at the Zilvermeercross, the first of the only four races where the two great attractions of the specialty will coincide.
Update:
After and as confirmed by his team this past Sunday, Wout van Aert will not finally debut this Monday at the Superprestige of Mol because of illness. Still without publishing any concrete date, the first duel between the two great tenors of cyclocross is moved in principle to Friday, December 27 with the Exact Cross of Loenhout.

Mol Exact Cross Schedule

- 15:10 Men's Elite
First race number of the season for Wout van Aert
Faithful to the Flemish town -they have shared the last four victories in Mol between them-, Van der Poel and Van Aert will once again measure themselves on a circuit marked by its challenging sand sections. Interestingly, it was also here, in the province of Antwerp, where the first clash of the season between the Dutchman and the Belgian was settled last year, although then it came under very different circumstances, especially in the case of the Visma | Lease a Bike rider.
And it is that on this occasion, Van Aert has not competed since his hard fall on the descent of Collada Llomena, during the last week of his until then successful Vuelta a España. That injury kept him off the podium in Madrid and off his main end-of-season goal: the Zurich World Championships. Recovered, facing a different cyclocross campaign as evidenced by his six unique goals, Van Aert returns to the mud with the fundamental goal of preparing for his spring classics campaign.
Waiting for him will be a Van der Poel who claimed victory in Mol last season, continuing an incredible streak of wins that was only interrupted by the fast track of Benidorm. The Alpecin-Deceuninck rider, with a more extensive race program, will arrive at the Zilvermeercross with a bit more experience than his rival, as he will debut a day earlier at the Zonhoven World Cup (Belgium).
Equality in the Superprestige overall standings
Beyond Van Aert's debut and Van der Poel's second winter race, Mol should break the tie at the top of the overall standings of a Superprestige where another Dutchman and another Belgian, Lars van der Haar and Niels Vandeputte, lead the standings tied at 49 points. Not far behind are a strong Michael Vanthourenhout (44) and Felipe Orts (37), who is in fourth place thanks in large part to his good performance in Niel, where he finished second.
The rider from the Ridley team hopes to continue his spectacular winter campaign within a very important block due to the quantity and quality of races that accumulate in just a few days.
