The striking new sponsor of Pogacar's UAE team
The presentations of the new team kits continue. This time it was the turn of UAE, which is now called UAE Team Emirates XRG after the incorporation of a new sponsor that will accompany the team for the next 6 years. A new jersey that is once again made by the Italian firm Pissei.
XRG energy company, new sponsor of UAE Team Emirates
As if the potential of UAE Team Emirates, which receives governmental support from this Arab country and its petrodollars, was not enough, now Tadej Pogacar's team strengthens its financial support with the addition of XRG as a new main co-sponsor, as was revealed after the presentation of the new kits that the now named UAE Team Emirates XRG will wear.
XRG is an energy company owned by Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, who expressed being "excited and proud to be a collaborator of the top UCI-ranked team," while also stating that this sponsorship aims to make them pioneers in offering sustainable energy solutions.

XRG's investments are focused on energy sectors that seek to meet the demand for increasingly clean and efficient energy, as team manager Mauro Gianetti expressed, "We are proud to present our new identity as UAE Team Emirates XRG. This collaboration reflects our commitment to achieving the goal of net zero emissions by 2030 and to continue inspiring future generations to lead a healthy and active life."
This strategy is noteworthy as the United Arab Emirates remains predominantly oil-based, being one of the top 10 major oil producers in the world. The addition of XRG as a sponsor, besides the extra investment it brings to the team, would need to be framed within the image-cleaning process that many of these oil-producing countries are beginning to face, as was recently seen with the controversial climate summit held just a month ago in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, another major oil producer.
Nevertheless, focusing on the sports aspect, it is worth mentioning that the collaboration between XRG and UAE Team Emirates will be in effect until the year 2030, a contract of no less than 6 years, which undoubtedly ensures, along with Tadej Pogacar's recent extension until that same year, that the Emirati team can continue to maintain its dominance in world cycling for the remainder of the decade.
