The new Wilier Urta Ultimate 2027 gets more travel, new kinematics and adjustable geometry: models and prices

The new Wilier Urta Ultimate 2027 is now official. The Italian brand completely renews its competition dual suspension with a platform developed alongside the Wilier-Vittoria MTB Factory Team and adapted to the evolution that XCO has experienced in recent years with more travel, more aggressive geometries, and a bike capable of maintaining pedaling efficiency without compromising performance in technical areas.

Wilier Urta Ultimate 2027: 120 mm and adjustable geometry for competing at the highest level

The Urta Ultimate now offers 120 mm of travel both front and rear, features a revised kinematics, receives a completely updated geometry, and allows modification of the head angle between 66.5 and 65.5°. Additionally, it includes a new Toray carbon frame, completely internal cabling, an integrated handlebar, and compatibility with the electronic systems RockShox Flight Attendant and FOX Live Valve.

Moreover, this is not a bike that comes directly from the engineering department to the stores. Wilier has been testing it in competition under the Innovation Lab decoration, and its development has been carried out alongside the riders of the Wilier-Vittoria MTB Factory Team, accumulating kilometers in the World Cup, Cape Epic, and international championships.wilier-urta-ultimate-lesgets-ross-bell-photo-87-1787653168206-2

A geometry completely adapted to modern XCO

One of the most important changes in the new Urta Ultimate is its geometry. Wilier explains that it has specifically worked on five parameters: reach, stack, effective seat tube angle, bottom bracket height, and head angle.

The reach increases by 9 mm in size L, now reaching 480 mm, while the seat angle changes from 75 to 76.8° across all sizes. This is a considerable jump that moves the rider forward over the bottom bracket and aims to promote a more centered position, especially important when pedaling intensely on steep slopes.

The bottom bracket has also been lowered to reduce the center of gravity. Wilier relates this change to the use of shorter cranks, an increasingly present trend in competitive XCO that allows reducing the risk of hitting the pedals against the ground while keeping the bottom bracket axis closer to the ground.

The stack, for its part, practically maintains the position of the previous generation according to Wilier, with the intention of preserving a compact and aggressive posture. The new integrated cockpit further defines that competitive position.wilier-urta-ultimate-lesgets-ross-bell-photo-14-1787653150129-3

The Urta Ultimate will be available in four sizes, S, M, L, and XL, with the following reach values: 424, 452, 480, and 505 mm respectively. The chainstays maintain a length of 433 mm across all sizes, while the wheelbase ranges from 1,148.8 mm for size S to 1,238 mm for size XL.

Two different geometries without changing bikes

But the main peculiarity of the geometry lies in the steering. Wilier has developed, together with Acros, a system that allows modifying the head angle and choosing between two configurations depending on the type of circuit.

The Technical Race position establishes a 66.5° angle and is designed to gain agility and maneuverability when technical areas predominate. The so-called Fast Race reduces it to 65.5°, seeking greater stability at high speeds.wilier-urta-ultimate-lesgets-ross-bell-photo-76-1787653168196-1

It is striking that Wilier calls Fast Race precisely the more aggressive configuration. The explanation is that it does not seek to make the bike faster in steering but more stable as speed increases.

The rest of the figures help to understand the approach of the Urta Ultimate. The seat tube remains at 76.8° across all sizes, the chainstays measure 433 mm, and the head tube varies between 90 and 110 mm. According to the table provided by Wilier, the complete geometry published corresponds to the Fast Race configuration, except for the specific value indicated for the head angle.

120 mm front and rear with completely revised kinematics

The 120 mm of travel on both axes are a consequence of current XCO trends. But Wilier has not limited itself to increasing the travel of the rear suspension.

The brand claims to have redesigned the kinematics to ensure that the suspension is sensitive at the beginning, has support in the mid-stroke, and retains the ability to manage hard impacts as it approaches the end of its 120 mm.wilier-urta-ultimate-lesgets-ross-bell-photo-27-1787653159919-2

To achieve this, the leverage ratio has been modified, now offering a response that Wilier defines as more linear and predictable. The first part of the travel is aimed at maximizing grip and absorption; the mid-stroke should provide support during pedaling; and the final part offers the necessary resistance against higher energy impacts.

Another goal has been to keep the suspension active even when the rider is applying power. This should allow the rear wheel to continue following the terrain during technical climbs instead of sacrificing traction in favor of an excessively firm platform.wilier-urta-ultimate-lesgets-ross-bell-photo-16-1787653150249-4

This is complemented by an optimized anti-squat, designed to limit the oscillations produced by pedaling and maintain efficiency when a lot of power is applied.

New Toray carbon and compatibility with Flight Attendant and Live Valve

The frame is constructed with next-generation Toray carbon. Wilier points out that the layup has been developed to achieve the necessary stiffness for geometry, suspension, and structure to work together in power transmission.wilier-urta-ultimate-lesgets-ross-bell-photo-5-1787653150258-1

Integration also gains prominence. The Urta Ultimate uses a Wilier-Acros headset, features completely internal cabling, and debuts an integrated handlebar called Urta Bar. The platform also supports four-piston brakes.

Especially interesting for a bike intended for the World Cup is its factory compatibility with the two major electronic suspension management systems: RockShox Flight Attendant and FOX Live Valve. This will allow configuring the bike with suspensions capable of automatically modifying their operation depending on the terrain and pedaling conditions.

The Urta Ultimate has already won before being presented

A large part of the development has been carried out directly in competition, and the prototype that Wilier has been using for some time under the Innovation Lab designation has already achieved significant results.

Simone Avondetto was crowned Elite XCO champion of Italy on this platform, while Juri Zanotti won two Elite silver medals at the European Championships, one in XCC and another in XCO.wilier-urta-ultimate-lesgets-ross-bell-photo-10-1787653150300-2

More recently, Gustav Heby Pedersen achieved a double victory in the U23 category in Les Gets, winning both Short Track and XCO.

Its definitive presentation comes just before the World Championship in Val di Sole, where the riders of Wilier-Vittoria will compete with the final decoration of the bike. Wilier has chosen a combination of intense purple, pearlescent white, and lime details to identify its new competition machine.
