The new Scott Addict RC 2025 breaks the scale
When it seemed that we had forgotten about hyperlight bikes since the arrival of disc brakes, aerodynamic bikes, and internal cabling, Scott comes along and launches the redesign of its climbing Addict RC, in its Ultimate version, breaking the 6-kilogram barrier without giving up a fully functional bike.
5.9 kg, the spectacular weight of the new Scott Addict RC
Many may not remember, but years ago, bikes below the UCI weight limit figure of 6.8 kg started to become common on the roads, and many sought to push the weight limit by creating ultralight setups using exclusive components or even customizing different parts of the bike to shave off every gram.

During that time, a frame became the star of many of these setups, some completely outrageous and on the edge of usability. We are talking about the Scott Addict, the direct heir of the Scott CR1, which was also a star of that minimalist setup era.
Throughout all these years, Scott has continued to keep the Addict in its catalog as a climbing bike proposal, but the main focus has been on its aerodynamic Foil, the bike that revolutionized the aerodynamics of road bikes with the use of truncated profile tubes.
Now, Scott's climbing bike is back in the spotlight with the launch of the new Addict RC, in which the brand has pushed the limits of frame manufacturing to achieve a frame weighing only 640 grams, a saving of a whopping 170 grams compared to the previous version, a real feat at these levels.
This weight reduction was achieved through a redesign of the carbon fiber layup of this Scott Addict RC to reduce the number of parts that make up the frame. Precision in the molding process was also improved to create a completely hollow frame, without any overlapping or protruding carbon parts at the tube junctions, paying special attention to small details like seat stays or seatpost clamps to shave off every possible gram without compromising the stiffness values achieved by its predecessor.
Other components of the bike also contribute to this weight reduction, such as the integrated handlebar assembly, which incorporates some features from its counterpart on the Foil aerodynamic bike. The handlebar provides a weight saving of 45 grams compared to its predecessor. By the way, an interesting detail from Scott is that one of the handlebar end plugs includes a small T25 torx key to tighten the various screws on the bike.
Wheels are another essential element in achieving a lightweight bike, and Scott was clear that its Addict RC could only be equipped with its Syncros Capital SL wheels, the spectacular wheels from its component brand, weighing just 1,170 g in their 40 mm profile version, which are the chosen ones for this Addict RC.
The seatpost, which is also inspired by the design used in the Foil, with the top part reduced to favor absorption and allowing, like the Foil, the installation of an integrated light, represents a weight saving of 13 grams compared to the previous seatpost that equipped the Addict.
However, this Scott Addict RC is not just about weight savings. Scott has taken advantage of the redesign to tweak some aspects that affect the bike's behavior and thus improve a machine that was still very current and had little to envy from other more modern bikes.
The main change is the adjustment of the geometry, aiming to make this Addict RC a little more stable on descents or against unexpected gusts of wind, as the previous version was a very nervous bike. With this small change, Scott also aims for this bike to be suitable not only for professional cyclists but also for a much wider audience. Additionally, related to its geometry, it is worth mentioning that the measurements have been optimized to use 700x30c tires, which seems to be the next common size in tire use in a growth that we don't know where it will stop when until recently, 25mm tires were common. By the way, its wheel clearances still allow for a larger size, specifically up to 34mm.
This latest creation from Scott is a spectacular bike that will attract the interest of many cyclists just for its competitive weight. But if that is not enough, Scott has an even better argument: its price. The generous price reduction that the Addict has undergone is remarkable, especially when compared to its competitors, placing the Ultimate build, which is the top of the range, 2,000 euros below them. Also very interesting is the pro build, with a weight below the UCI limit in Shimano Dura-Ace, comfortably below the psychological barrier of 10,000 euros.
