The countdown for the most special edition in the history of UNBOUND Gravel has already begun. The organization has unveiled the official route for the flagship 200-mile race for 2026, and the 20th anniversary will come with a course that mixes historical sectors, new features, and a significant change from recent years: the race will once again head south of Emporia.

UNBOUND Gravel 2026 announces an epic course to celebrate its 20 years

The legendary UNBOUND Gravel 2026 will take place on May 30 and will once again be the second scoring event of the Life Time Grand Prix 2026. The main route will finally measure 207 miles, about 333 kilometers, with around 2,740 meters of elevation gain over the endless gravel roads of Kansas.

UNBOUND returns to the south and mixes historical sectors with new features

After several editions looking north, the organization has returned to a southern route for the first time since 2023. The start will maintain the classic departure from Emporia, but the course will incorporate some of the most recognizable sectors from the recent history of the race.

The first key point will come after passing through the elite aid station in Madison, located at mile 43.5. From there, two of the most well-known climbs on the southern route of UNBOUND will begin. First will be Texaco Hill, between miles 59 and 63, and shortly after, Teeter Hill, another of the climbs that often makes a difference due to its steep ramps.

The second half of the race will also include a completely new section called W Road, located around mile 130. Further on, the riders will pass through Council Grove before facing one of the most spectacular points of the day: the crossing over the Lake Kahola dam, a very common spot in the northern routes where a large presence of spectators is expected.

In the final kilometers, the riders will have to conquer the well-known paved climb of Highland Hill before returning to Commercial Street to complete one of the most iconic finishes in the gravel world.

More control at elite aid stations

The organization has also announced significant changes to the assistance points for professional riders. The Elite Feed Zones will be completely separated from the aid stations for amateur participants in both UNBOUND Gravel and the Leadville Trail 100 MTB 2026.

The goal is to improve safety and reduce the usual chaos at these points. Among the new rules, there will be feeding only from the right side, and any assistance from moving vehicles, including bicycles or motorcycles, will be prohibited.

Free live broadcast

UNBOUND Gravel will once again feature free live broadcasting through the official YouTube channel of the Life Time Grand Prix. The broadcast will start on May 30 at 5:35 AM CDT, which is equivalent to 12:35 PM in mainland Spain.

Additionally, the pre-show THE LEADOUT will be broadcast on Friday, May 29, from Emporia. The organization will also post race updates on Instagram and later summaries on YouTube.

Michelle Duffy, director of the Life Time Grand Prix, explained that the goal was to build “a course that reflects the history and spirit of this event.” She detailed that the new layout “combines iconic sectors from both directions with new roads that add a different challenge.”

The director also highlighted the competitive level that this edition will have, especially in the women's category, and reminded that American Bradyn Lange will arrive as the male leader of the circuit.
