The Ineos Grenadiers are looking for a second sponsor to become a super team again

The Ineos Grenadiers has been without achieving the expected results for a few seasons now, a team that used to win any race they set out to until recently. Key cyclists and important team members have left the formation. The departure of Pidcock has been the most talked about, and for some months now there have even been rumors of a possible disappearance of the team, all of which has been recently denied by their director John Allert.

INEOS Grenadier ensures its continuity and announces that it is looking for a second sponsor

In a video call with the media, the CEO of Ineos Grenadiers, John Allert, confirmed a few days ago that the cycling team will continue to exist beyond the 2025 season, dispelling rumors that had been circulating for weeks about the possible retirement of its owner, Jim Ratcliffe, who has diversified his investments in other sports, such as football.

“I can confirm that the team will exist in the next WorldTour cycle (2026-2028). We have owners passionate about this sport, who not only invest but also ride bicycles. If they didn't want to continue in this sport, they would have made it clear, but that's not the case”. John Allert affirmed.

Although Ratcliffe remains committed, Allert revealed that Ineos is now looking for another main sponsor to maintain and possibly exceed its current annual budget, estimated at around 50 million euros. “It is fair to say that Ineos does not want to spend more money. We are looking for commercial partners to help us become a super competitive team”, commented Allert. He also assured that there are no immediate agreements, but the search for sponsors is underway.

As we were saying, Ineos Grenadiers has suffered a significant setback in its status as a dominant team and closed 2024 in 7th position in the UCI ranking of 2024 with only 6 victories in WorldTour races.

2025 will undoubtedly be marked by the retirement of Geraint Thomas and the team will start this new stage with Filippo Ganna, Josh Tarling, Carlos Rodríguez, and Egan Bernal as leaders of the squad.

“We haven't won the Tour de France since 2019, and teams like UAE Team Emirates and Visma-Lease a Bike have taken our place on the main stage. But we are determined to change that”, assured Zak Dempster, one of the new sports directors.

Scott Drawer, performance director, highlighted that the team has started an internal restructuring, bringing in specialists from other disciplines to optimize performance. In addition, three specific lines of work have been created to focus on Grand Tours, One-day Classics, and performance races. “We want to win many more races and compete for podiums in the Grand Tours. We are restructuring to stay ahead of the changes that have transformed this sport in recent years”, explained Drawer.

There is no doubt that Ineos Grenadiers is making all possible changes to return the team to the top of the World Tour, but we will see how long it takes them to achieve this and if a capital injection will help them reduce the timelines.
