The first Intend dropper post arrives with 190 mm and proprietary technology
Intend BC has just expanded its catalog with a completely new component for the German brand. The Intend Elevator is its first dropper post and comes with 190 mm of travel, hydraulic cartridge operation, pneumatic spring, fully sealed construction, and a unique system that uses air compression to soften the end of the travel.

Intend Elevator: a dropper post designed around durability
Intend is particularly relevant in the MTB scene due to the rise of 32-inch wheels. Its 32" Samurai fork has become one of the most common options among the first prototypes and bikes of this new size that we are seeing emerge, placing the small Freiburg brand in a much larger showcase than usual.
The Elevator maintains much of the philosophy that Intend applies to its forks and shocks. Few external complications, precise machining, and special attention to internal operation and maintenance.

The first version is available only for frames with a seat tube of 31.6 mm and offers a maximum travel of 190 mm. However, the travel can be reduced in 10 mm increments to adapt it to different bikes and saddle heights. Intend considers configurations of 180, 170, 160, 150, 140, 130, 120, 110, and 100 mm, among others.
The post has a total length of 534 mm and claims a weight of 564 grams without remote. Its operation relies on a hydraulic cartridge to lock the position of the post. And as is common in most current droppers, it allows the saddle to be placed at any point in its travel.
Safe Space Technology: air to prevent a harsh bottom-out
One of the most unique solutions of the Elevator is found precisely at the bottom.
Intend calls Safe Space Technology a completely sealed air chamber located at the base of the post. When the saddle descends, that volume of air is progressively compressed and slightly increases resistance as the post approaches the end of its travel.
The principle is similar to the behavior of an air chamber in a suspension. When the Elevator is fully extended, the air in this area is approximately at atmospheric pressure. When the post is compressed, its volume decreases and pressure increases, generating a progression that helps cushion the arrival at the end of the travel.
Additionally, Intend factory-adjusts the air pressure based on the rider's weight, establishing a usage range of 50 to 110 kg.
A completely sealed bottom
The sealed chamber has a second function related to reliability.
In many dropper posts, the movement of the mechanism displaces air into the frame and then has to suck it back in when the post extends. According to Intend, if the available holes for that exchange do not allow enough air to move quickly, it can cause a slowdown during the last millimeters of extension.

The Elevator eliminates that exchange by working with a completely sealed bottom. All the necessary air volume remains inside the post itself.
In passing, this construction prevents water, dust, or dirt that may accumulate inside the seat tube from reaching the internal components. Intend highlights this point as one of the keys to ensuring that the post maintains its functionality over the long term.
Oil instead of grease and two internal bushings
Intend has also paid special attention to reducing friction. The Elevator uses two internal PTFE bushings to guide the movement. The use of two support points also aims to reduce the possibility of the post getting stuck when subjected to lateral loads, something that can happen when pressure is applied to the tip of the saddle or on bikes with certain seat tube angles.
Internal lubrication is done with suspension oil instead of grease, while the sliding surfaces are hand-polished. The upper shaft is a monoblock piece with a natural anodized finish.
According to Intend, the combination of the two bushings, oil lubrication, and the finish of the surfaces allows the post to operate even when the saddle is bearing high and off-center loads.
A hydraulic cartridge that purges during use
Another unusual feature announced by Intend is the Self-Bleed system. The hydraulic cartridge is responsible for keeping the post in the selected position. Over time, the presence of air mixed with oil can cause some posts to develop a certain vertical movement even when locked.
Intend claims that the Elevator's cartridge is designed to automatically purge during operation, so that the use of the post itself helps to keep oil and air properly separated.

Additionally, the cartridge is designed to be serviceable, following the brand's approach of manufacturing a repairable product intended to remain functional for many years. In fact, Intend presents the Elevator with a rather ambitious question: “Your last dropper post?”
Manufacturing and assembly of the Intend Elevator
Although Intend designs, develops, and tests the Elevator in Freiburg, Germany, part of the assembly is produced in Taiwan through an external supplier. The final assembly is done in Germany. The brand particularly highlights the work on CNC machined parts, the hand polishing of surfaces, and the individual assembly of each unit.

The Elevator Boy remote is sold separately
The Elevator can be used with any compatible cable-actuated remote, but Intend also offers its own Elevator Boy.
The remote maintains the brand's characteristic aesthetics, with a small anodized support surface in a natural finish and a unique mechanism for tensioning the cable. It has a declared weight of 27 grams and is sold separately for 79 euros.
The new Intend Elevator is priced at 379 euros, a figure that places it within the high segment of the market, although it is relatively contained considering the usual positioning of Intend components.
With it, the German brand enters for the first time into an extremely competitive market. Instead of trying to differentiate itself through electronics or additional functions, it focuses on less visible aspects: sealing, friction reduction, progression at the end of the travel, self-purging, and ease of maintenance. A philosophy quite consistent with what Intend has been applying to its suspension components for years.
