The favorites announce their lineups for La Vuelta 2025
With just a few days left until the start of La Vuelta a España 2025, many of the participating teams, including the Visma-Lease a Bike of the top favorite, Jonas Vingegaard, have kicked off this week leading up to the start of the Spanish tour by revealing the eight riders they will put into action in the final grand tour of the 2025 season.
Visma-Lease a Bike announces the lineup that will support Jonas Vingegaard in La Vuelta
As usual, despite the approximate names of the cyclists who have had La Vuelta a España 2025 on their race schedule for months, it is not until the week before the race starts that we finally get to know the final lineups.
In addition to the early announcement of the team that will present UAE-Team Emirates-XRG, made at the end of July to avoid the media circus about whether Tadej Pogacar would participate in La Vuelta or not, a good number of teams have chosen this Monday before the start of the competition to announce their lineups.

As we mentioned, the earliest were UAE-Team Emirates-XRG, with a team that will have a leadership shared between Juan Ayuso and Joao Almeida, a duo that will try to face the power of a Visma-Lease a Bike that is, a priori, the top favorite to win La Vuelta. Supporting both cyclists will be a strong team, although obviously slightly inferior to the one Pogacar had at his disposal in the Tour de France.
They will face the Visma-Lease a Bike of a Jonas Vingegaard who will try to add another grand tour victory after two years since his Tour de France win. Although the Dutch team has left the always disruptive Wout van Aert at home, the lineup they present has very little to envy to the one that competed in the Tour de France. Sepp Kuss and Matteo Jorgenson will again be the lieutenants of the Danish rider in the mountains, while riders like Campenaerts, Kelderman, or Van Baarle will support him on the flat stages.
Movistar Team is another team that has announced its lineup for La Vuelta 2025. A team that, after the withdrawal of Enric Mas due to thrombophlebitis requiring prolonged treatment, has been left without any aspirations for the general classification. However, the Telefónica team has good artillery to be a protagonist throughout La Vuelta by doing what has been demanded of them: seeking stage victories and being present in breakaways.
We will surely see riders like Pablo Castrillo, Carlos Canal, or Javi Romo trying to salvage Movistar's end of the season. It is surprising that Nairo Quintana is not included in the final lineup, as initially La Vuelta was one of his main objectives of the season.
The last top-level team whose eight riders for La Vuelta we have known is Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, which presents a squad that is almost a formality. Their leader for the general classification will be Jai Hindley. While he has won a Giro d'Italia, his current aspirations seem to be limited to a Top10 finish.
Most likely, their goals will be the stages with riders like Pellizari, Sobrero, Denz, or Finn Fisher-Black.
A similar role will be played by XDS-Astana, which has also announced its team for La Vuelta, once again with plenty of firepower to be protagonists almost every day. Conci, Fortunato, Higuita, Masnada, Poels, Tejada will likely be regular names in the breakaways each day.
We are still waiting to find out which teams will present EF Education-EasyPost to support Richard Carapaz, Q36.5 with Tom Pidcock, or an INEOS-Grenadiers team with Egan Bernal as the leader.
