The European XCO champion renews with Wilier Vitoria until Los Angeles 2028
The talented XCO cyclist Simone Avondetto has joined his future with the Wilier-Vittoria MTB Factory Team for another 4 years. The renewal has just been made official and will take both parties until 2028, when the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics will be held.
Wilier Vitoria extends Simone Avondetto's contract until Los Angeles
Avondetto joined the Wilier team in 2022 during his last year as a Sub-23 cyclist and then managed to win the titles of Italian XCO Champion, European Champion, and World Champion in his category.
In 2023, a mononucleosis hindered his debut as an elite cyclist, but in 2024 he had time to make up for it by winning the Italian XCC Championship, achieving two podiums in the World Cup, and becoming the first Italian to win the European XCO Championship, a jersey he won in a tough race where Avondetto managed to beat top riders like Simon Adreassen.

This renewal comes just a few days after the team issued a statement explaining that they were going to abandon their XCM division to focus 100% on XCO.
"For me, Wilier-Vittoria is like a second family, the perfect place to keep growing step by step, just as I have done so far", said Avondetto. "Since I joined this incredible team, I have achieved some great results, but I have also faced difficult moments, like the seemingly endless battle with mononucleosis in 2023. During that time, the team was always by my side and provided me with everything I needed, which made me realize that I was really in the right place. I can't wait to repay that trust with good performances on tracks around the world."
"Avondetto fully embodies the values of our team: passion, determination, and the drive to excel", explained Marco Trentin, director of Wilier-Vittoria. "We are proud to continue supporting him on his journey towards new milestones in XCO. Our decision to invest only in this discipline starting in 2025 has its roots in our belief that, with the right support, an athlete with such great potential can achieve extraordinary things in the coming years."
"Simone has been key to our growth in mountain biking," added the Gastaldello family, owners of Wilier Triestina. "Over the years, we have seen him improve as an athlete, achieving world-class results. This contract renewal is part of a broader strategy to position Wilier Triestina as one of the top brands not only in the road cycling world but also in off-road disciplines. In two years, our goal is to become a leading Factory team in the UCI XCO World Cup."
