The darkest Tour de France arrives in Hollywood with Natalie Portman and Jonathan Bailey as the leads
Professional cycling will once again become a Hollywood stage with “Pumping Black,” a new psychological thriller set in the international peloton starring Jonathan Bailey and Natalie Portman. The film, which will be officially presented at the Cannes Market, seems to be a story about obsession, power, and secrets within the Tour de France.

The film will be directed by Mimi Cave, known for “Fresh,” and will feature a script by Haley Hope Bartels. The story will follow Taylor Mace, a 35-year-old cyclist who begins to fall out of a sport obsessed with youth and performance. In a fierce struggle to remain competitive heading into the Tour de France, the rider falls under the influence of Andrea Lathe, a doctor as brilliant as she is dangerous, willing to push him to the limit in order to achieve victory.

Jonathan Bailey, who in recent months has established himself as one of Hollywood's big commercial stars thanks to titles like Bridgerton, Wicked: For Good, and Jurassic World Rebirth, will play the lead cyclist. Meanwhile, Natalie Portman, an Oscar winner for Black Swan, will portray Dr. Andrea Lathe and will also participate in the production through her company MountainA. The project will begin filming this fall and will be fully financed by Anton. Among the producers is also Stacey Sher, a Hollywood veteran with credits in films like Pulp Fiction, Django Unchained, and The Hateful Eight. Although cycling has appeared in film and television before, few recent productions have chosen to use the Tour and its surroundings for the big screen.
