Aside from the specific selection criteria, these are the cyclists who have earned the most points for their country during the Olympic cycle and the best currently positioned in the individual UCI ranking. In addition, all except Keller already know what it is like to win an Olympic medal, and in the case of Schurter and Neff, even win an Olympic Games.
Without knowing the rest of the selections, there is no doubt that Switzerland will be one of the favorites for the medals, and it would be rare if they were not on the Olympic podium in Paris.
