Specialized Stumpjumper 15: models and prices
Specialized presents the renovation of one of its flagship models: the Stumpjumper 15. The new model revolves around the GENIE shock absorber, the six different positions to adjust the geometry and the possibility of mounting mullet wheels. The range consists of five models and starts at 6,500 euros for the most economical version.
Specialized Stumpjumper 15: a classic ready to continue setting the pace
The Stumpjumper is an emblem of the cycling industry and the weight of history rests on its tubes, even though the current version bears little resemblance to that primitive embryo that saw the light in 1981 and became the first mass-produced MTB. The Specialized Stumpjumper is the living image of the evolution of a sport that has changed and adapted over time.
With a trajectory of this magnitude, the Stumpjumper is one of the best-selling trail bikes and has earned the honor of being a flagship of the brand. The design of the 15 has taken three years of development and has focused efforts on the three pillars that have guided previous generations of this model: control, capability, and fun.
RECOMENDADO
The most important novelty is the GENIE shock absorber. It is a pneumatic damping technology made in Specialized that seeks to satisfy the fantasies of any cyclist: the sensation and control provided by a spring, better prevention of sag than with a conventional air shock, and an adjustable platform.
In the language of numbers, these attributes translate into an improvement of 16.3% in managing bump force, a reduction of 57% in traction loss time, and 39% fewer bottom-outs compared to a standard spring.
Specialized is breaking the mold with GENIE, as it ensures that it matches the quantity and quality of travel used in the Enduro -within the force range of most bumps-, despite having 25 mm less travel.
GENIE has been created for the PSA air spring and, as the manufacturer explains, by using two separate but connected positive air chambers, the total air volume is increased. This results in a much flatter spring curve during the first 70% of travel and a much more progressive curve in the last 30%. It is, in a way, combining the best of spring and air technology with the added benefit of greater adjustability.
Another highlight is the range of possibilities offered by the adjustable geometry. In total, six different positions, which can be configured as follows: three positions in the head angle -between 63° and 65.5°- through a cup in the headset and two positions to adjust the bottom bracket height -7 mm up or down-.
With aftermarket shock mounts, the cyclist has the option to choose between 29" wheels or a mullet configuration, regardless of the geometry, which remains the same in both cases.
Additionally, it comes with Traverse SL II wheels and tires carefully chosen for good grip, rolling resistance, and puncture protection.
