Spain could host a MTB World Cup in 2027
Spain could once again host a top-level international mountain bike event. Representatives from Warner Bros Discovery Cycling Events, Ocisport, Carlos Coloma's team, and the RFEC have met to explore the possibility of the country hosting a UCI Mountain Bike World Series event in 2027, something that hasn't happened since 2009.
RFEC, Warner Bros Discovery, and Ocisport are considering bringing the World Cup to Spain in 2027
The offices of the Royal Spanish Cycling Federation hosted a strategic meeting today to discuss the possibility of Spain being part of the UCI MTB World Cup calendar again. The meeting brought together representatives from Warner Bros. Discovery Cycling Events, the organizing company Ocisport, the technical team led by Carlos Coloma, and officials from the federation to explore ways to organize a WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series event in Spain in 2027.
The meeting included several key figures from the international circuit. Among them were Chris Ball, Vice President of Warner Bros. Discovery Cycling Events, accompanied by Eve Gazagnes, Hearn Connor, and Ludovic Megret as members of the organizing team. From the Spanish side, Albert Balcells, director of Ocisport, Carlos Coloma with his technical team, as well as the president of the RFEC, José Vicioso, and the legal advisor of the federation, José Rodríguez, participated.
More than 15 years without a World Cup in Spain
The main objective of the meeting was to analyze possible collaboration avenues among all parties to bring a major international mountain bike event back to Spain. Specifically, the intention would be for one of the events in the 2027 season of the WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series to take place in Spanish territory.

During the meeting, the common will to move forward in this direction was evident, and various organizational and collaborative aspects necessary to make the project viable were discussed.
Spain has gone more than a decade without hosting a top-category cross-country event. The last time the country was part of the World Cup calendar —currently integrated within the WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series— was in 2009, when Madrid hosted one of the events.
Since then, the circuit has traveled through numerous countries and European venues, including neighboring Andorra, but the calendar has not included Spanish territory again. The interest shown by the various parties involved now opens the door for that absence to end in the 2027 season if negotiations progress favorably.
