Shimano gives you a chain checker and launches a campaign that can save you from having to replace the entire drivetrain
SHIMANO has launched a new campaign focused on one of the most basic and often forgotten maintenance tasks for any bicycle: checking chain wear. Under the slogan “Check. Care. Ride.”, the Japanese brand will give away a chain checker (units are limited) to those who purchase an original SHIMANO chain at any of its participating Shimano Service Centers.

This initiative is part of its global concept “Caring for your bike” and aims to raise awareness among both amateur and advanced cyclists about the importance of periodically checking chain stretch. A simple maintenance task that can prevent much more costly transmission failures.

According to SHIMANO, a worn chain not only worsens the smoothness and precision of shifting, but also accelerates the wear of chainrings and cassettes. Detecting in time when the chain has reached its limit of use allows for significantly extending the useful life of the other transmission components.

The chain checker included in the campaign is designed so that any user can check the condition of their transmission at home without needing mechanical knowledge. The operation is as simple as inserting the tool between the chain links and checking if it fits completely. If the tool fits easily, it means that the chain has stretched and needs to be replaced.
SHIMANO will also distribute visual materials and quick-use guides at the points of sale, as well as digital content accessible via QR codes. The brand also reminds that the units of the checker are limited and recommends visiting the participating Shimano Service Centers as soon as possible.
