Shimano releases a firmware update that will put some motors in competition mode
Those who compete in Enduro or simply seek to squeeze out all the performance possible from their eBikes will benefit from the improvements introduced by Shimano, addressing the needs of different sponsored riders, which have been materialized in a firmware update for their EP801 motors that is now available for anyone who wants to use these new functions.
Enduro World Cup competition teams evolve Shimano motors
The Shimano EP801 eBike motor receives interesting features incorporating all the evolutions that the brand has been developing alongside its Enduro World Cup teams Yeti / Shimano EP Racing Team and that have also been tested by squads like Enduro Rotwild Schwalbe and OOLab from Orbea.
Among the new features, we find a higher level of assistance for the Boost mode, a customizable maximum speed cut progression, and extended drag assistance when pedaling stops.

An update that is already available for all those whose bikes have an EP801 motor and that will be included as standard in bikes manufactured from June 25 onwards.
The Boost mode assistance improvement allows it to reach a 400% assistance, offering a quicker response to the cyclist's pedaling, allowing them to tackle technical climbs with total confidence.
Now it is also possible to customize how the assistance decreases as the bike approaches the 25 km/h mark that sets the speed cut, so that it occurs more progressively or more abruptly depending on the cyclist's preferences. A function has also been added that maintains assistance for a few seconds even if we stop pedaling, so the rider can focus on the correct line and absorption in difficult areas without fear of losing the necessary momentum to facilitate passage through these areas.
Obviously, the time the assistance is maintained after stopping pedaling can be customized in three settings: short, medium, and long, and the cyclist has the option to cancel it at any time by pedaling backwards if needed.
Although not specifically related to the motor, in this latest update, Shimano has also introduced changes to the Auto Shift function so that it disconnects if the cyclist makes a manual shift, and then resumes automatic operation shortly after. This way, it can be avoided that AutoShift works in areas where we prefer to choose the specific gear to pass through them.
All users who wish to incorporate these new functions can do so by visiting their nearest workshop or, starting this fall, it can also be done through the new E-Tube Project application that will be launched then.
