Schurter and Colombo raced with a prototype of wheels in Crans Montana
The circuit and conditions of the Crans Montana XCO World Cup pushed both the cyclists and the equipment to the limit, and although it was a circuit where it seemed better not to experiment, some decided to bet on new components or components in development.
Schurter and Colombo competed with wheels in development
Just a few days ago we could see how Nino Schurter responded to one of the classic questions of this sport during an interview with an Italian media. There they asked him to point out what had been the most important technical advance in his sports career, and to the surprise of many, Schurter said that without a doubt it was the tires and wheels.
In that sense, we could see in Crans Montana Nino Schurter and Filipo Colombo competing with what appear to be new Syncros wheels. At first glance, it is difficult to guess their specifications, but it seems that they are wheels with a carbon rim, alloy spokes, and a lower profile than the current Sycros Silverton 1.0s that Schurter usually competes with.
At the top of the Syncros catalog for mountain bikes, we find the exclusive Silverton SL made of carbon in one piece along with the spokes. But this model, which was chosen by Tom Pidcock to compete in 2021, seems too rigid for Schurter and we have rarely seen him compete with it. So now he could be trying something new that better suits his riding style.

It is also possible that it is a model specifically made to compete in a race as particular as the one in Crans Montana and if so, it would never be released to the market, but only time will tell.
