Roglic will do the Giro and Tour in 2025, will we see Pogacar in La Vuelta?
The main cyclists on the world stage continue to unveil their calendars for the 2025 season. The latest to do so has been Primoz Roglic during the winter training camp that Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe is conducting in Mallorca, and he does so with surprise as he will not defend his victory in La Vuelta, declaring that the Giro d'Italia will be the main objective of the year.
Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe outlines the calendars of its main cyclists
It seemed like a joke when a couple of months ago Primoz Roglic stated that he would compete in races where Tadej Pogacar was not present. Now, with the 2025 season about to begin, the Slovenian seems to be true to his words as he has confirmed that his two main Grand Tours next year will be the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France, with the Italian race being his main focus of the year.
“I wanted to return to Italy after a year of absence following my victory in 2023. And I had never planned a season like this, with the focus one hundred percent on the Giro from the start” stated Primoz Roglic before the numerous journalists who gathered at the team's training camp in Mallorca. Apart from his participation in the Giro and Tour, Primoz Roglic explained that at the beginning of the season he will compete in the Volta ao Algarve and Volta a Catalunya without giving specific dates.

With Roglic and Jonas Vingegaard targeting the Giro d'Italia, the race is gaining special interest for 2025. The fact is that everyone seems to rule out Tadej Pogacar, whom most rumors place in La Vuelta. However, the Slovenian from UAE Team Emirates, who announced his calendar a few days ago, left the decision between the Giro and Vuelta open.
In fact, shortly after, his director, Josean Fernández Matxin, made it clear that the decision to go to La Vuelta will depend on the route that will be presented on December 19. On the other hand, the route of the Giro continues to be a mystery, presumably due to problems with the organization of the first stages that will take place in Albania, and the Corsa Rosa still does not have a presentation date. In principle, the main asset for the Giro d'Italia of UAE Team Emirates will be Juan Ayuso.
Therefore, it could be the case that Tadej Pogacar finally chooses the Giro d'Italia, although, in principle, it seems unlikely as he has included the cobbled classics in his calendar, leaving a spring too loaded to consider doubling the Giro and Tour.
Returning to Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, their director Rolf Aldag spoke about the rest of the team leaders, explaining that Daniel Felipe Martínez will accompany Roglic in doubling the Giro and Tour, while Alexander Vlasov will opt for the Tour and Vuelta. Meanwhile, Jai Hindley, former winner of the Corsa Rosa, will also participate in this race and in La Vuelta.
