A RockShox patent shows an electronic dropper post with the battery located in the clamp area
The RockShox Reverb AXS dropper post for mountain bikes was introduced in 2019 and was the first to incorporate an electronic and cable-free system. Now, a patent from SRAM hints at what could be a new model in which its design changes completely and adopts something we have already seen in the new FOX Transfer NEO.
A new RockShox dropper post could come with the battery located in the lower area
With the Transfer NEO dropper post, FOX has included in its catalog what could be the first of the electronic components that could be introduced in the coming months. It is a wireless dropper post with a very clean aesthetic thanks to the battery located right in the area where the seatpost is inserted into the frame.
This battery position has been justified by claiming that it leaves more free space with the rear wheel compared to the RockShox Reverb. Something we had never heard before and that seems to could generate rubbing problems especially in smaller frames.
The new SRAM patent goes in that direction and shows a dropper post with a removable battery placed right in the clamp area. In addition, it can be read that it would come with a release and locking mechanism through electromagnets replacing the current motor, which could reduce its weight and increase autonomy, and with an intermediate position capable of functioning as a suspension of about 40mm.
