Red Bull is preparing for the big signing of the year and announces the departure of Rolf Aldag
Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe has officially announced a change in its sports structure with the departure of Rolf Aldag as team performance manager. After four successful years, both parties have decided to end their collaboration, opening the door to a deep restructuring that would have Belgian Remco Evenepoel as the main protagonist.
Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe announces the departure of Rolf Aldag
The announcement comes just days after Florian Lipowitz's outstanding performance in the Tour de France, where the young German managed to climb onto the final podium and wear the white jersey as the best young rider.
The person replacing Aldag will be Sven Vanthourenhout, former Belgian national team coach and key figure in the development of Evenepoel as a Grand Tour rider. In statements to Sporza, Vanthourenhout confirmed his imminent incorporation into the team:
“I will join Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe immediately. I will be involved in all departments, from the development team to the WorldTour”.

This move further fuels the rumors of Evenepoel's signing, which according to media outlets like La DH Les Sports+ or La Gazzetta dello Sport, would already have a closed agreement with Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe. However, the operation would require an agreement with his current team, Soudal-QuickStep, which has publicly denied any transfer so far.
During his time leading the sports department, Rolf Aldag has been instrumental in the team's transformation. Under his direction, the team moved away from its old identity focused on sprints and Peter Sagan to become a reference in stage races. Among their most notable achievements are Jai Hindley's victory in the 2022 Giro d'Italia, Primo? Rogli?'s triumph in the 2024 Vuelta a España, and Lipowitz's podium and white jersey in the 2025 Tour de France.
General manager Ralph Denk thanked Aldag for his commitment and key role in the team's growth and also made it clear that the ultimate goal remains intact: winning the Tour de France. And to achieve that, signing Remco Evenepoel would be a decisive move. If confirmed, the Belgian would take on the role of the main leader in three-week races, sharing structure with Lipowitz and Rogli?.
