Pirelli is testing some new mud tires and Lake Placid seems to be the best testing ground

The XCO World Cup in Lake Placid could be contested on a muddy circuit where cyclists are training this week, and in these conditions, the setup and chosen equipment could be crucial. There, we have seen new prototype mud tires from Pirelli that some official brand cyclists could use in competition.

Even in bad conditions, it is difficult for XCO World Cup cyclists to choose to ride mud tires for competition. Mainly because they add a lot of weight right where this factor most affects handling. But there are occasions when having grip and sacrificing weight translates into higher final speed.

Without knowing the conditions in which the competition will take place on Sunday in Lake Placid, during this week's training, we have seen some official Pirelli bikers riding with a prototype tire specially designed for mud.

In their current XCO catalog, there is still no specific model for these conditions, and from what we see in these images, there is no doubt that it is a tire with more prominent and spaced-out treads that favor grip and mud evacuation.

Pirelli does not hide that it is a prototype and clearly states it on the sidewall, although we had already seen it earlier this season and can confirm that it has not changed in months, so it could be a final version.
