Pidcock aims for the Gravel World Championship and confirms his presence in La Vuelta
After a Giro d'Italia in which things didn't go as expected, Tom Pidcock hinted that he might be too fatigued to compete in the Vuelta a España. However, in his latest statements, he has confirmed not only his intention to race in the Spanish tour, but also to finish the season with his debut in the Gravel World Championship.
Tom Pidcock plans to debut in the UCI Gravel World Championship 2025
The British rider is aiming for a new challenge within his already demanding and multidisciplinary calendar. The Gravel World Championship is scheduled for October 11 and 12 in Maastricht, Netherlands, after being moved from its original location in the French region of Côte d'Azur due to technical issues in the organization.
In an interview with Cycling Weekly, Pidcock revealed his roadmap for the end of the season: "The idea is to do the Vuelta, the [road] World Championship, the Italian classics, and then the Gravel World Championship. I want to give it my all in those one-day races, and the Vuelta will give me a lot for that."

Although gravel will be a new discipline in his competitive record, his talent on mixed surfaces is well proven. In 2023, he won the Strade Bianche and this season he finished second in the same race, just behind Tadej Poga?ar. He also made an impression in the sterrato stage of the 2024 Tour de France, where he finished second behind Anthony Turgis.
The Q36.5 cyclist has already demonstrated his versatility, with victories in road racing, cyclocross, and MTB. However, it seems that this year we won't see him in mountain bike races as the planned calendar leaves little room for it.
