Patrice Brunet, a key figure in the history of Zéfal and a defender of the European cycling industry, has passed away
The French cycling industry is in mourning following the passing of Patrice Brunet, a businessman, cycling enthusiast, and one of the most influential figures in the recent history of Zéfal. For decades, Brunet played a fundamental role in the growth of the French company and in advocating for national manufacturing during a period of profound changes in the sector.
Patrice Brunet passes away, the man who helped turn Zéfal into a global reference in cycling
Patrice Brunet led Zéfal as general director from 1988 to 2007, a period marked by significant transformations in the bicycle market. Under his leadership, the company experienced strong growth coinciding with the rise of mountain biking during the 1990s, a phenomenon that helped bring cycling to new generations of enthusiasts around the world.

His tenure at the helm of the company was also marked by the challenges faced by the European industry due to the increase in competition from Asia. Convinced of the value of French know-how, Brunet defended throughout his career the maintenance of industrial activity in France and the independence of Zéfal, a vision that allowed for the long-term consolidation of the family business's future.

Beyond his business side, Patrice Brunet was a deep lover of cycling history. A recognized collector, he amassed one of the most notable collections of vintage cycling posters, a testament to his commitment to preserving the cultural heritage of the sport.
In recent years, he had dedicated much of his time to the Challenge du Tourmagne project, participating in the publication of a manuscript focused on this historic cycling adventure from the late 19th century. The route of that historic event has been revived today as a gravel route.
From Zéfal, the company has wanted to pay tribute to someone they consider a decisive figure for both the company and the French cycling industry. His sons, Matthieu and Aurélien Brunet, who currently run the firm, along with the rest of the brand's team, have highlighted the human and professional legacy of a man whose dedication, curiosity, generosity, and passion for cycling left an indelible mark.
With his passing, one of the personalities that best represented the will to keep the French industrial tradition alive within the bicycle sector disappears, while also contributing to writing an important part of the history of Zéfal, one of the most emblematic brands in European cycling.
