New Orbea Occam 2024: information, models and prices
The Orbea Occam 2024 is here. The Basque manufacturer has presented the fifth generation of the Occam, which the brand divides into two families to emphasize each of the two souls that live inside: the balanced Occam SL for a conventional trail and the all-terrain Occam LT for an aggressive trail that approaches enduro. In total, 11 setups have been launched starting at 2,799 euros.
Orbea Occam 2024: versatility that exudes adventure
Orbea evolves the Occam for the fifth time with a renovation that promises to be better than its predecessors. Versatility is the starting point for this trail model which, by definition, is the discipline that combines pedaling efficiency with downhill capability. Knowing that the Occam navigates between these two worlds, each version reinforces one of these facets.
The Orbea Occam, therefore, is divided into two models that try to satisfy two types of cyclists who, although they share the same adventurous spirit, have different objectives.

Orbea Occam SL, efficiency and balance
This model aims to bite into a part of the pie in which there is normally little on offer. This is a trail bike that stands out for offering great pedaling efficiency - it handles the same values as a cross country bike, according to Orbea - and is a bike designed to withstand long distances and combine both climbs and descents.
The Occam SL has a geometry that prioritizes control and downhill capabilities. Translated into numbers, the size L has a 65.5° head angle, 78° seat tube angle, 490 mm reach and 440 mm chainstays.
Suspensions have 140 mm of travel both front and rear, giving the Occam SL a good amount of cushioning, while the FOX 34+ Float shock is more capable than its predecessor.
Remote lockout comes to trail bikes for the first time. The simple I-Line operation of the Squidlock control - integrated in the brake clamp - allows locking and unlocking of the shock and dropper post without difficulty. The kinematics are also strengthened by improving the previous antisquad and antirise data.
The weight is another argument in favor of this version, since the lightest setup is 10.85 kilograms.
Occam LT, aggressiveness just one step away from enduro
The Occam LT is a trail bike with an enduro spirit. In this case, Orbea has squeezed the design to change some key geometry numbers and increase suspension travel. The result is what you'd expect: a more aggressive model that doesn't fall into the enduro category, but is very close to it.
The geometry is one of the most important aspects to understand what differentiates the Occam LT from the Occam SL. The brand has opted for a flip chip for which you only have to loosen one bolt and pull the top tube slightly upwards. These modifications adjust the bottom bracket height by 8 mm and the head angle by half a degree.
As for the most important measurements, the head angle is 64°-64.5°, the seat tube 77°-77.5°, bottom bracket drop 36-28 mm, reach 480-485 mm and chainstays 440 mm.
On the other hand, the progressive suspension has 160 mm of travel at the front and 150 mm at the rear.
Moreover, it has some points in common with the Rallon, such as progressivity and anti-squad and anti-rise values.
Occam SL y LT, there are reasons to share
Both models have some features in common. Firstly, in both versions the frame is asymmetrical and is offered in both carbon and aluminium.
Orbea has put emphasis on the headtube and bottom bracket to avoid wrinkles and irregularities "in critical areas" in order to use less carbon, as well as improving the stiffness-to-weight ratio by adding high modulus, high strength fibres to its standard layup.
The aluminium models have polished welds for a monocoque look and many of the tubes are double or triple butted. In addition, stiffness has also been increased.
With Steep'n'Deep technology, the seat tube can accommodate a dropper post up to 230mm. This, combined with short seat tubes, allows the rider to choose the size of reach they are most comfortable with.
Other shared technologies include the SIC system, a completely sealed internal cable routing that is quieter and more reliable, and Second Skin, replaceable vinyl protectors that offer new designs and keep the paint intact for longer.
Orbea has chosen OQUO Mountain Performance -in the case of the SL- and OQUO Mountain Control -in the case of the LT- wheels for most of the set-ups. The brand has included in both versions the renewed LOCKR compartment for storing tools or food and has installed co-moulded polymer protectors that protect the frame, among other improvements.
