Often overshadowed by the S-Works helmets, the Propero is a high-quality helmet that has very little to envy its older siblings. Specialized continues to care for this model, now in its fourth generation. A helmet in which the aerodynamics of the S-Works Evade come together with the ventilation of the S-Works Prevail at a much more affordable price than the top-of-the-range models.

Aerodynamics and ventilation come together in the Specialized Propero 4

Unless you are an enthusiastic cyclist who doesn't spare any expense for their hobby, when it comes to buying a new helmet, many people nowadays are torn between opting for an aerodynamic road helmet or a lightweight and ventilated one. If you can't have a model of each, Specialized brings the answer to your dilemma with its new Propero 4, the second tier of the range in which it has inherited the best of each of the two S-Works models that crown the range of those from Morgan Hill.

Despite being the second model in the range, don't be mistaken. This Specialized Propero 4 is a sporty helmet with top-notch performance. In it, Specialized has sought to find the perfect balance between aerodynamics, lightness, and ventilation.

For the design of its aerodynamic features, Specialized has used everything learned in the different versions of its S-Works Evade, hours of simulations using CFD software to optimize the rear ventilation openings, which have the most impact on aerodynamics and the suction of hot air from inside the helmet.

Of course, all the results obtained from the simulations were corroborated in the Specialized wind tunnel before proceeding with the manufacturing. The test results were conclusive: 15 seconds faster than the S-Works Evade 3 in a standard 40-kilometer test at 45 km/h.

As we mentioned, ventilation is an essential factor in a versatile helmet like this Specialized Propero 4. In addition to the mentioned design of the helmet's rear edge, the internal microchannels are of special importance, designed to create small turbulences in the airflow that facilitates its circulation inside the helmet, making it even easier for fresh air to enter from the front and for hot air to be expelled.

In addition to its performance, we cannot forget that this Specialized Propero 4 is a helmet that in the prestigious VirginiaTech impact tests from the University of Virginia obtained the highest rating, in part, due to the inclusion of features such as the MIPS rotational impact protection system.

Being a model that prioritizes aerodynamics, this Specialized Propero 4 maintains a reasonably lightweight, tipping the scales at 290 g in size M and has a very interesting price for a helmet that could be a top-of-the-range model in other brands: €190.
