New Look Keo Blade pedals, the fastest made by the brand

In cycling, the saying "if it works, don't touch it" doesn't usually apply, but that's precisely what Look has been doing with their renowned Keo Blade road pedals, arguably the most used pedal model on the asphalt. Now, the French firm gives them a facelift by expanding their support surface and shaping the bottom part to add a small aerodynamic improvement.

Look Keo Blade, improving the present

Look had been a long time without modifying their Keo Blade pedal models, which have only seen two generations. Pedals that at the time of the introduction of their first version, back in 2011, were a real revolution by replacing the usual fixation system with a metal spring for a spring based on a flexible carbon blade.

A blade available in different flexibilities in order to allow the cyclist to choose the solidity of the grip and release. For its part, the current generation improved the original design with larger carbon blades and a more stylized design.

In this third generation that arrives now Look maintains the general design lines of those we knew, at least at first sight. However, the brand has spent three years of intense development to make its body as narrow and aerodynamic as possible, achieving, according to their own measurements, an improvement of 2% compared to the current model.

It continues to maintain a tremendously light weight by dispensing with the metal spring and thanks to its composite material body. In its top-of-the-range version, which includes a titanium axle, the scale barely marks 95 grams per pedal, without giving up a wide support surface of 64 mm wide by 11 mm for a total of 705 mm², which allows a better force transfer in addition to minimizing the appearance of excessive pressure points on the foot that end up turning into painful discomfort as the hours go by.

Apart from performance-related issues, Look has taken the opportunity to redesign the anchoring system to make both engagement and release much easier. Look has not forgotten about durability either, achieving a 200% increase in impact resistance of its structure and revising the design of its axle to prevent water ingress, a quality that is reinforced with the use of a specific grease that also prevents water from doing its thing in case it reaches the inside of the pedal.
