New Lapierre in development: more travel and complete redesign of the frame

The first two events of the calendar are bringing more news than expected. After analyzing in detail the new XC models that Trek and Canyon are testing in competition, we also saw another important development at the International event in Chelva: the Dutch rider Anne Terpstra competed and won, which strongly suggests it is a new prototype from Lapierre.

Lapierre is also testing a new bike in competition, and Anne Terpstra has already won with it

Just like with the new Trek seen in recent weeks, this Lapierre clearly stands apart from the current Lapierre XR used so far by the official teams. The differences are so evident that it does not seem like a simple update, but rather a completely new model.

At first glance, the bike shares very little with the current XR. The most striking change is the new frame architecture, with the shock now positioned vertically. The monopivot scheme in the rear suspension is maintained, although with a complete redesign. Without official figures, but based on proportions and design, everything indicates that the travel has increased from the previous 100 mm. Our bet is that it could be around 115 mm.

Also noteworthy is the oversized area around the bottom bracket, which acts as the base for the shock. This area has been designed to house a Flight Attendant system, although it leaves a fairly exposed cavity that could accumulate dirt in adverse conditions. We will have to see if this is a provisional solution typical of a development phase or if this configuration goes into production as is. Meanwhile, the rear triangle features very sleek stays, with an aesthetic that suggests rigidity and reactivity.

We know it is a Lapierre because it is the bike with which Anne Terpstra competed, now in the Lapierre PXR structure. However, the frame looks completely black and without visible logos, a common detail in test units that may still undergo modifications before their final release.

What is clear is that the project is already competitive. Debuting with a victory in a race of Chelva's level is the best possible validation for any development in an advanced phase. If this result demonstrates anything, it is that Lapierre seems to be fine-tuning in the right direction.
