New CUBE Litening Aero C:68X: a superbike that breaks the market by price

Buying a road bike with Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 or SRAM Red AXS, carbon wheels, and an aerodynamic frame developed for competing at the highest level usually means easily entering five-figure prices. CUBE is playing another round with the Litening Aero C:68X 2027. Its new competition aero bike maintains a price of 7,299 euros in its higher builds and comes with improvements aimed at making it lighter and faster.

New Litening Aero C:68X 2027: CUBE updates its competition aero bike

Although it retains the well-known name Litening Aero C:68X, we are looking at a new generation. CUBE itself explains that it started from scratch with the development of the frame and relied on CFD simulations, wind tunnel tests, internal resistance tests, and the experience gained in the professional peloton. 

The bike also doesn't come as a complete surprise. The Team TotalEnergies had been competing since June with a Litening Aero different from the one we previously knew, although CUBE had not officially presented all its details.

Now we know that behind those new shapes were significant changes. The frame and fork set weighs 150 grams less than the previous generation, while CUBE announces a reduction in aerodynamic drag of up to 6 watts. The frame has a declared weight of 980 grams. 

However, it does not represent a radical break in the cyclist's position. CUBE has maintained the geometric philosophy of the Litening and has focused much of the development on reducing weight, improving aerodynamics, and updating certain points of the frame.

Up to 34 mm tire and UDH

Another important change is in the wheel clearance. The new Litening Aero C:68X allows the use of tires up to 34 mm, a considerable figure for an aero bike aimed directly at competition and which expands its possibilities compared to the previous generation.

A UDH dropout also appears, an increasingly widespread solution that improves compatibility with current and future drivetrains.

The frame is offered in sizes from 50 to the new 62 cm, maintaining completely internal cabling and the monocoque construction with CUBE's C:68X carbon.

New integrated IC Aero Max handlebar and a more comfortable seatpost

Aerodynamic development has not been limited to the frame. CUBE has designed the new IC Aero Max, an integrated cockpit intended to work in conjunction with the bike's shapes.

The brand itself estimates an additional 1 watt improvement that this cockpit can provide compared to its previous configuration.

It has a flat top with specific support for the palms of the hands and shapes clearly oriented towards an aerodynamic position. CUBE has also opted for narrower handlebars and shorter cranks in some sizes, following an increasingly evident trend within professional competition.

The seatpost is also new. It maintains an aerodynamic profile but is designed to flex more and, according to CUBE, provide 10% more comfort than a conventional seatpost. 

Models, price, and weights of the CUBE Litening Aero C:68X 2027: five builds from 4,999 to 7,299 euros

Here lies probably the biggest argument for the new Litening Aero C:68X. Its range includes 5 models, and each offers a build and price that is very difficult to match by the competition.

The Litening Aero C:68X PRO starts the range at 4,999 euros and is equipped with SRAM Force AXS E1 12-speed, integrated power meter in the spider, Newmen Streem A.49/54 carbon wheels, and Continental GP5000 S-TR 30 mm tires. Its declared weight is 7.6 kg.

For exactly the same price, the Litening Aero C:68X RACE appears, an especially attractive alternative for Shimano users. It mounts Ultegra Di2 12-speed, dual power meter 4iiii Precision 3+, Newmen Streem A.49/54 carbon wheels, and Schwalbe Pro One Aero tires. CUBE declares 7.4 kg.

One step above is the spectacular Litening Aero C:68X Orbit, priced at 6,999 euros. It uses SRAM Red XPLR AXS 13-speed and 1x configuration, aero chainring with 50 teeth and power meter, 10-46 cassette, and Newmen Streem S.60/66 VONOA carbon wheels with carbon spokes. At 6.9 kg, it is also the lightest bike in the entire range.

The Litening Aero C:68X SLX costs 7,299 euros and mounts SRAM Red AXS E1 2x12 with power meter, Newmen Streem A.49/54 VONOA carbon wheels, and Continental GP5000 S-TR. Its announced weight is 7.1 kg.

Finally, the Litening Aero C:68X SLT also costs 7,299 euros, but opts for Shimano Dura-Ace Di2. It incorporates Dura-Ace cranks with dual power meter 4iiii Precision 3+, Newmen Streem S.60/66 VONOA carbon wheels, and Schwalbe Pro One Aero tires. Its weight is also 7.1 kg.

CUBE Litening Aero C:68X 2027 range

Talking about bikes priced between 5,000 and 7,300 euros as economical would not make sense out of context. But within the segment of top-level competition bikes, the new CUBE Litening Aero C:68X has arguments to become one of the best proposals in terms of build, weight, performance, and price on the market.
