New Campagnolo Ekar GT groupset and Zonda GT wheels

Road 20/02/24 14:00 Migue A.

The second generation of the Campagnolo Ekar groupset takes on the GT, Gran Turismo, surname as a statement of intent that now it is more than just a gravel groupset. Now it is also focused on what is known as allroad, becoming a fantastic option for the cyclist who only aspires to travel the most exciting routes.

Campagnolo renews its Ekar groupset to make it even more versatile

The new Campagnolo Ekar GT groupset, a renewal of the single-chainring Ekar groupset with 13 sprockets with which the Italian brand ventured off-road, now crosses the gravel boundaries to become a perfect option for those seeking maximum simplicity on their bike and, at the same time, want to have a complete range of developments regardless of whether they pedal on a dirt track or climb a first-category mountain pass.

To achieve this, first of all, the available development options are increased, with this Campagnolo Ekar GT having 4 cassettes with 13 sprockets in toothings of 9-36, 9-42, 10-44, and 10-48 that can be combined with one of the 5 available chainring options: 44, 42, 38, and 36 teeth that allow for everything from the wildest gravel to developments that allow for very fast riding on asphalt.

In addition, the design of its cranks, which are fixed by the Ultra Torque system, allows for changing from one Power Tech chainring, the name given to Campagnolo's single-chainring, to another without the need to disassemble the cranks, so we can easily adapt the development to what we need that day simply by having different chainring toothings at home.

The rest of the groupset also receives slight modifications to improve its weak points, such as the unique length derailleur to manage all gear combinations and, of course, it features a clutch system to prevent chain movement when riding off-road on rough terrain, and in this Ekar GT version, it is equipped with larger pulleys that better prevent mud and dirt accumulation.

Campagnolo has also taken the opportunity to tweak the ergonomics of the levers in this Ekar GT with a wider and more comfortable hand support.

In the philosophy of this new Ekar GT to combine gravel and road, Campagnolo has decided to accompany the launch of this groupset with new Zonda GT wheels, an evolution of one of the best quality/price wheels on the market and that adapt to gravel use by adopting a 23 mm internal rim width that allows for fitting high-volume tyres without any problems, something that also requires using generous-sized tyres when mounting road tyres.

These Zonda GT wheels have a very reasonable weight of 1,690 g and maintain the G3 spoke pattern, not only a hallmark of Campagnolo wheels but also one of the solutions that time has shown to provide greater stiffness and resistance in a wheel's spoke pattern. In fact, anyone who has been able to use Zonda road wheels is aware that they are practically indestructible.

Both the Ekar GT groupset and these Zonda GT wheels are already on sale with a price for the complete groupset of €1,490, while the set of Zonda GT wheels costs €690.
