The new Bosch Performance Line CX will bring a generation of eBikes that are quieter, more powerful, and more dynamic
The heart of any eBike is its electrical system and BOSCH is one of the most prominent manufacturers in this segment. Their new fifth-generation Bosch Performance Line CX motor is accompanied by the Bosch eBike ABS Pro braking system, Purion 400 display, and PowerTube 600 and PowerTube 800 batteries.
New Bosch Performance Line CX 5th Gen motor
Gone are the early years of electric mountain bikes where absolute power values were taken as standard. Enthusiasts, professionals, and manufacturers now know that what truly matters is precise motor tuning and sensitivity. Claus Fleischer, CEO of Bosch eBike Systems, presented their new motor:
"With 85 Newton meters of torque, a maximum power of 600 watts, and up to 340 percent support, the new Performance Line CX (BDU384Y) offers the ideal balance of power, dynamics, efficiency, and autonomy. Whether for smooth rides on steep trails or powerful and perfectly controlled starts after a curve: with its precise and sensitive response behavior, our new drive unit allows eBike riders to experience a unique driving dynamics for the perfect eMTB experience."

The new BOSCH Performance Line CX features new dynamic technology and sensitive sensors that adapt power delivery according to pedaling behavior.
These sensors measure pedaling more than 1,000 times per second and combine cadence, acceleration and rotation speed, incline angle, vibrations, etc. to gather information about the terrain and driving conditions at any given moment.
With this information, the new BOSCH Performance Line CX Gen 5 promises to always offer the appropriate power for the situation.
Additionally, in challenging situations such as starting from a standstill on steep climbs, the new BOSCH Performance Line CX Gen 5 features a new assistance that provides relaxed assistance with full traction. Even in the new walk assistance mode, the assistance adjusts the push speed to the walking speed.
BOSCH makes way for the sound of mountain biking
Another highly appreciated quality in an eBike is its sound, or rather the absence of it. Cyclists prefer electric systems that are less intrusive in the driving experience, and noise is an important factor.
In this regard, Bosch has optimized the gearbox of the new Performance Line CX (BDU384Y) to achieve a good balance between power delivery, efficiency, and noise levels. Additionally, on descents, the external drive train decouples from the internal drive train, further reducing mechanical noise.
Bosch eBike ABS Pro braking system
The new Bosch eBike ABS Pro system is designed to allow eBikers to focus more on driving and less on braking.
It is a high-performance braking system that increases stability by allowing late and powerful braking without losing front wheel traction.
Bosch has developed this system in competition and now offers 2 modes based on feedback received. The ABS Trail Pro for demanding MTB cyclists and ABS Race for enduro racers.
Purion 400 Display
The new Purion 400 display is part of the Performance Line CX ecosystem. Its minimalist design has been adapted to eMTB, protecting it in the handlebar triangle. Its 1.6-inch size offers a good view of essential data such as speed, range, power, and total distance.
PowerTube 600 and 800 promise longer rides
In an eMTB, the motor and driving sensations are as important as the autonomy available for riding. Bosch has developed the PowerTube 800, the largest PowerTube battery to date. It has around 94 Wh/lb and offers the highest energy density in a range that also includes the new PowerTube 600.
In these new PowerTubes, made with partially recycled materials, Bosch has used battery cells with optimized energy density and an aluminum housing developed specifically for both batteries.
Both have the same length so they can be easily removed and replaced if the eBike manufacturer provides this option. They are also compatible with the DualBattery system (allows the use of two batteries simultaneously and intelligently manages both). In some cases, two PowerTube 800 batteries could be installed for a total capacity of 1,600 Wh. It can also be combined with an external PowerMore 250 battery.
The entire new BOSCH system is now available on the market, and many eMTB manufacturers are already introducing new updated models with it.
