Nairo Quintana renews with Movistar

The uncertainty is over for Nairo Quintana, who will continue for another year as a professional in the ranks of Movistar Team after his renewal was announced. A peace of mind that, however, cannot be enjoyed by the more than 60 cyclists, between the World Tour and the Pro Tour, who as of today do not have a contract for the 2025 season.

Nairo Quintana leaves the list of cyclists without a contract for 2025

As every year, these dates represent a real drama for many cyclists who, for one reason or another, have not managed to renew with their current teams or find a place in a new team. Cyclists who, along with their representatives, are pushing the last months of the year calling on all doors knowing that not finding a contract before the start of the season means, in practice, having to say goodbye to professionalism almost definitively.

Nairo Quintana was on this tightrope until today when his contract renewal was finally announced, for another season, with the Movistar Team after a special season for the boyacense as the Spanish team allowed him to come out of the ostracism he had fallen into after his positive test two years ago for Tramadol in the Tour de France.

A Nairo Quintana who, despite not having a brilliant performance throughout this year, has managed to reinvent himself as a team player with a notable role during the Giro d'Italia.

The uncertainty continues, however, for more than 60 cyclists who, as of today, are without a contract for 2025. A list in which we find some high-level names such as Elia Viviani, Mateo Sobrero, Esteban Chaves, or Kenny Elisonde. We also find in that list some who are unlikely to have the option at this point to sign a new contract, at least at the highest level, due to their age.

Such is the case of cyclists like the triathlete Cameron Wurf, who is 41 years old; or Arashiro who has already reached 40. An expiration date that, however, contrasts with the longevity of a cyclist like the manchego Óscar Sevilla, settled in Colombia for years, who a couple of days ago claimed the first victory of the 2025 season after winning the first stage of the Vuelta a Ecuador, earning him the leader's jersey in the first two days of the race. All this at 48 years old and after more than 25 years as a professional.
