Movistar Team advances in its transformation
Movistar Team has announced a significant restructuring in its Sports Area, another step in the transformation process that the blue squad has been developing in recent seasons. The change will be led by Sebastián Unzué, who takes on the new role of Head of Sports, with the aim of improving internal coordination and facing future sporting challenges with greater guarantees.
“We want to continue evolving as an organization and provide the team with a modern, efficient structure aligned with the demands of current cycling”, explained Unzué. “This new model will allow us to optimize processes and strengthen collaboration between all departments”.

The new organization is structured into four major areas that will cover all aspects of performance and sports management:
- Performance: led by Iván Velasco and Xabier Muriel, will include performance, engineering, biomechanics, nutrition, and R&D areas, with a focus on maximizing the competitive potential of the riders.
- Race: under the direction of Chente García Acosta and Matthew White, newly incorporated into the team, this department will coordinate planning and sports direction in competition.
White stated: “After more than 15 years as a sports director, I am starting a very exciting new stage. I have always felt a deep respect for the Movistar Team and now I have the opportunity to contribute from within”. - Health: led by Iñigo Michelena, will focus on medical management and the well-being of cyclists.
- Riders: a new department aimed at integrating the representation of cyclists within the different structures of the team.
Generational change
With this move, Eusebio Unzué, 70 years old, could take on a more representative role, handing over operational control to his son Sebastián Unzué as the new Head of Sports. This announcement reinforces Sebastián's leadership in the sports structure and marks a generational transition within the team.
