Mavic Cosmic S Carbon 42: the first carbon wheels under 1,000€ from the brand
Despite the fact that top-level cycling material is becoming more and more expensive, brands are becoming aware of the need to supply bikes and components to a large market of cyclists who cannot or do not want to use top-of-the-line products but do not want to settle for materials that offer less performance. A good example is wheel manufacturers who, more and more often, offer very attractive models at affordable prices.
Having high-performance wheels without asking for a loan is possible with the Mavic Cosmic S Carbon 42
Mavic joins the trend of other wheel manufacturers to have an economical model with a carbon fiber rim that allows the user to have high-performance wheels without having to pay the huge prices that top-of-the-line wheel models mark today, but stay below the psychological figure of one thousand euros. Specifically, you will have to spend 999 euros to get a pair.
Mavic does this with the introduction in its catalog of its new Cosmic S Carbon 42 which retain many of the qualities of their older sisters in the catalog although with a different level of carbon fiber as well as simpler spokes and hubs which is reflected in the final weight of the wheels that increases to 1,660 g.

The Mavic Cosmic S Carbon 42 are built on carbon rims with a 42 mm profile and 21 mm internal width, the latter, a figure that nowadays is narrow when many manufacturers are already building them with 23 or even 25 despite the fact that, with 21 mm, there is more than enough base to mount tires up to 30 mm without any problem. By the way, being Mavic, as it could not be otherwise, the rims are tubeless incorporating the UST design of the brand, pioneers in the generalization of the use of tubeless tires.
The hubs are the simplest model that the brand has, which, despite this, already incorporate the ratchet Insta Drive 360 freehub system. As is usual in the brand's wheels, Mavic has adapters to use thru-axles or conventional quick release and hubs for all cassette systems on the market. The spokes, despite being flat to maximize aerodynamics, are conventional with the attachment to the rim in the form of a J instead of the straight spokes, theoretically more resistant, that the French brand uses in its higher models.
Wheels that are presented as a fantastic option to improve those that usually come as standard on most mid-range bikes, providing a more modern aesthetic to our machine as well as the aerodynamic benefits of having profile rims, although their depth is not very high and, of course, the greatest advantages in terms of reducing rolling resistance by being able to use tubeless tires.
