Eurosport Premium announces that it will close its doors on July 22nd. The Les Gets XCO World Cup will be the last event of the competition that can be followed through the platform. The move will force users to subscribe to Max -and its Sports add-on- for a price of around 15 euros per month.

The XCO World Cup changes home again: goodbye Eurosport Premium, now it's Max's turn

The XCO World Cup moves to the French town of Les Gets to compete in the sixth event of the competition. The tournament thus concludes its journey through European soil -after Nove Mesto, Val di Sole, and Crans Montana- and will lower the curtain until the end of September. However, Les Gets will also mark the end of XCO World Cup broadcasts on Eurosport Premium, in another move that confirms the Discovery group's commitment to the Max platform.

The XCO World Cup can only be followed in full without ads through Max starting on July 22nd. It is important to mention that Movistar+ will retain the Eurosport channels; that is, only the Eurosport Premium application disappears. However, there is no guarantee that the competition can be followed through the channels, as their programming varies under their own criteria.

Subscribing to Max requires the standard subscription -9.99 euros/month- and adding the Sports add-on -5 euros/month. To facilitate the platform transition and avoid user backlash, a 50% discount on the standard rate is offered to those who were already Eurosport Premium subscribers. Thus, new customers will have to pay around 15 euros per month, while current ones will contribute around 10 euros monthly.

The discount must be contracted before September 30th and will be valid until the end of the year. In addition, the offer does not apply to those who already have a subscription to Max.

Eurosport Premium will reimburse users with the proportional money for the remaining time of their subscription.

The news reached Eurosport Premium subscribers through an email. The Discovery group is an American giant that entered the shareholding of Eurosport in 2012 and bought and sold GCN in 2018 and 2023, respectively. Their intention since then has been to position themselves as one of the references in cycling.

The big announcement came in 2022 when RedBull TV stopped broadcasting the XCO World Cup for free after handling the broadcasts since 2012. Discovery joined forces with Warner Bros -owner, among others, of HBO- and has been in charge of broadcasting the biggest XCO competition since last season.

If until now it had been done through Eurosport -through the channels or the Premium application, depending on the schedule-, now it ends with the app and transfers its activity to the Max platform. The announcement of the cessation coincides with the end of the Tour de France, which will end on July 21st.

Max now has all the sports offer of Eurosport Premium -greater than what is offered through Eurosport channels-.
