Kilian Jornet chooses Wilier's lightest bike for his brutal Alpine Connections
The mountain athlete Kilian Jornet is involved in one of his particular projects where he combines running, cycling, and mountaineering to cover enormous distances. This time in his Alpine Connections, as the project is called, he will try to link the maximum number of 4,000-meter peaks in the Alps and for the longest transitions he has chosen the new Wilier Verticale SLR. His first stage on the bike has been 210 km with over 4,000 m of elevation gain.

The general idea of the project is to try to cover the maximum number of 4,000-meter mountains in the Alps only with his own impulse, or in other words: running, climbing, and biking. And although there are no details about the route, Kilian is sharing his day-to-day live from his Strava account.
The first day has had a 15-hour activity day that he divided into 2 stages. The first running and climbing 29 km with over 2,500 m to go up and down the Piz Bernina, and the second stage has covered on the bike 200 km with over 4,000 m of elevation gain.

"After climbing Piz Bernina in the morning, I cycled over 210 km alone with almost 4000 m of elevation gain through some iconic mountain passes, to reach the next stage of the adventure with my own strength."
As we say, we do not know how far Kilian's project will go, but we remember that in the Alps there are 82 mountains over 4,000m and in 2015 Ueli Steck, one of the references in mountaineering and of Kilian himself, took 62 days to climb them all in a style similar to what Kilian proposes.
For this Alpine Connections, we have seen that Kilian Jornet has chosen the new Wilier Verticale SLR, a model presented a few weeks ago and stands out for its clearly climber-focused approach with a hyper-light frame of only 1623 g.
