How is the bike change going for Pidcock: "We took the measurements and then copied the position of his old bike to the new one"

The signing of Tom Pidcock by Q36.5 has brought many changes for the British rider compared to the INEOS Grenadiers: training, planning, nutrition... and of course, the equipment going from the Pinarello Dogma to the Scott Addict RC and Foil RC, on which he is still in the process of achieving perfect adaptation.

This has been Tom Pidcock's adaptation to Q36.5

Professional cyclists are usually very meticulous about the equipment they use, so when someone like Tom Pidcock signs with a new team like Q36.5 after 4 years competing with INEOS, adapting to the new bikes is not easy.

In Q36.5, Tom Pidcock has two types of bikes available, the aerodynamic Scott Foil RC and the climber Scott Addict RC, compared to the all-terrain Pinarello Dogma F. Luckily for him, both machines share almost identical geometry on which the Swiss team technicians have tried to replicate the measurements that Pidcock had on his Pinarello as explained by the team's head mechanic Céderic Stahli: "It hasn't been easy, we are still looking for the best position. Right now he feels comfortable on the bike".

After transferring the position to the team's Scott bikes, the real work began to optimize that position to adapt both bike models exactly to Pidcock's physiognomy.

However, one of the biggest changes that Tom Pidcock has had to face is switching from the Shimano he used at INEOS to the SRAM Red AXS groupset mounted on the Scott bikes of Q36.5 where, in addition to the wide variety of cassettes to choose from, from 10-30 to 10-36, there is also the possibility of opting for a single chainring configuration. What doesn't change is the choice of crank lengths used by the British rider, barely 165 mm, according to his small stature (Pidcock is just 1.70 m tall and weighs around 58 kg).

However, the Q36.5 mechanics team has been dedicated to meeting all of Pidcock's requirements: "Tom knows what he wants and what he needs. We can help him with whatever is necessary. He is a very pleasant person to work with," Stahli stated.

As a curiosity, the head mechanic of the Swiss team explained the limited margin for modifications they have in the case of the Scott Addict RC, as any modification can cause the bike to fall below the UCI weight limit. They are mainly focused on improving the bike's performance by testing different bearings and using waxing to wax the chain as a way to make the bike as fast as possible.
