Garmin presents the Tacx Nēra, a new smart trainer with freedom of movement and 2,200 watts of power
Garmin expands its indoor training catalog with the new Tacx Nēra, a smart direct drive trainer that incorporates multidirectional movement, a measurement accuracy of 1%, and the ability to simulate gradients of up to 20%. It comes in two versions, one of which is prepared for Zwift, and both are priced at 999 euros.
New Garmin Tacx Nēra with freedom of movement
The element that distinguishes the new Tacx Nēra from conventional trainers is its ability to allow the bike to move naturally while we pedal. To achieve this, Garmin has integrated a system of mobile supports that allows for forward, backward, and lateral movements.
This freedom of movement aims to reduce the feeling of stiffness that characterizes many direct drive trainers. The result, according to Garmin, is a pedaling experience that is more similar to what we experience on the road, especially when we get out of the saddle, perform a sprint, or accumulate several hours of training.

This is not the first time Tacx has worked in this direction. The brand had already developed the Motion Plates to incorporate longitudinal movement into its trainers and later integrated a movement system in the Tacx NEO 3M. The new Nēra continues this evolution with an integrated solution that does not require additional movement platforms.

Up to 2,200 watts and 1% accuracy
Beyond its movement system, the Tacx Nēra offers features designed for both structured training and virtual competitions.
Garmin announces a measurement accuracy of 1% in power and cadence, a maximum resistance of 2,200 watts for sprint efforts and the ability to replicate climbs of up to 20% gradient.
Another of its innovations is the incorporation of the Race Mode, developed to improve the speed at which data is transmitted during virtual competitions. This function allows accelerations and changes in pace to be reflected more quickly in compatible applications.
To achieve this, it also features integrated Wi-Fi connectivity, which aims to provide a more stable connection during sessions on platforms like Zwift or ROUVY.
The trainer is designed with foldable legs and an integrated transport handle, two details that make it easier to store when training is finished.
Two versions, one of them prepared for Zwift Cog Click
Garmin has particularly aimed to simplify the initial installation of the Tacx Nēra. That’s why it is marketed with two different configurations that allow you to start training without having to purchase the main transmission components separately.
The conventional version includes an 11-speed Shimano/SRAM cassette and its corresponding hub already installed.
The second configuration, called Zwift Ready, directly incorporates Zwift Cog and Zwift Click, the system that allows the use of virtual gears and control of certain application functions from the handlebars.

With Zwift Cog, this version is compatible with bikes equipped with transmissions ranging from 8 to 13 speeds when used with compatible applications. The gear shifting is done electronically via Zwift Click, without the need to physically move the chain between different cogs.
In addition to controlling virtual gears, Zwift Click allows you to manage functions such as virtual steering, menu navigation, or sending Ride Ons in Zwift.
Compatible with Garmin Coach, Tacx Training, and the Tacx Alpine simulator
The new trainer also integrates into Garmin's training ecosystem. Cyclists can set up free Garmin Coach plans from Garmin Connect and then complete the sessions in Tacx Training.
This latter application has a library of free workouts and a premium mode that incorporates real routes from different places around the world, challenges, and other additional features.
The purchase of the Tacx Nēra includes 45 days of access to Tacx Training Premium upon registering the device.
It is also possible to connect it to Garmin Edge cycle computers and compatible watches, allowing for the integration of indoor sessions with other activities and data recorded in Garmin Connect.
For those who want to increase realism even further, the Tacx Nēra is compatible with the Tacx Alpine, the incline simulator that physically raises and lowers the front part of the bike. With this accessory, sold separately, it is possible to replicate climbs of up to 25% and descents of up to -10%, as well as use virtual steering functions in compatible applications.
Price and availability of the Garmin Tacx Nēra
