From Ferrari to MTB: Brembo lands in mountain biking with a high-end brake system
Brembo has officially entered the mountain bike scene. After making an appearance at the Downhill World Cup, the Italian brand launches its GR-PRO system, a set of brakes developed in competition and designed for the most demanding disciplines of the moment, especially downhill, enduro, and eMTB.
Brembo Takes the Leap into MTB with a Complete Brake System Born from the DH World Cup
The starting point is not an isolated component. The GR-PRO is conceived as a complete system in which each piece has been designed to work with the others. Calipers, levers, discs, hoses, pads, and even the oil are part of the same development. The idea is to maintain consistent performance under demanding conditions, especially on long descents where heat and fatigue often make a difference.

All development has focused on high-load scenarios. Heavier bikes, higher speeds, and longer braking times. In this context, Brembo seeks powerful braking but, above all, easy control. This is where the work on modulation and adjustment comes into play.
The lever introduces an unusual level of customization in MTB. It allows modifying the lever ratio in three positions, adjusting the contact point at various levels, and adapting the distance to the handlebars with a very wide range. This is not just an aesthetic adjustment. Every change is noticeable while riding and alters how power is applied.
The system features a four-piston caliper made of two forged pieces, designed to increase stiffness and maintain precision in braking. The pump, also forged, concentrates high force in a compact assembly and allows for that margin of adjustment without losing consistency.
The discs are a key part of the set. They have a thickness of 2.3 mm and will be available in 200 and 220 mm. Their design aims to improve thermal management during intensive use and maintain stability during long braking. The internal structure follows solutions from the motorcycle world, with a clear focus on durability and heat dissipation.
The system is completed with braided metal hoses that help maintain a consistent feel and a specific pad compound developed by the brand itself, already used in competition with proven results.

Brembo markets the GR-PRO in kit format. It includes two calipers with mounted pads, two levers, hoses, proprietary mineral oil, a bleeding kit, and a second set of pads. The discs are sold separately, allowing for the final configuration to be adapted to each bike.
As for the price, it is positioned directly in the high-end range, and it is expected that the complete kit will be around €900.
Brembo brings its competition experience to a product where adjustment and consistency are as important as power, something that aligns with the current evolution of more aggressive MTB.
